The Star S-LAP laser aiming pointer is a replica of Laser Devices' OTAL aiming laser, http://www.laserdevices.com/infopage.asp?a=laser_rifle&id=19105&action=deviceresults.asp
which is the little brother of Laser Devices' DBAL, http://www.laserdevices.com/infopage.asp?a=laser_rifle&id=40040&action=deviceresults.asp . Incidentally, Star also makes a replica of the DBAL, called the D-LAP, and was reviewed by Redhawk.
The S-LAP comes in a plain looking cardboard box, but is nicely patted inside. It is made made of metal, unlike the plastic PEQ or PAQ battery boxes/lasers. It takes two 1.5v batteries. I am not sure of the exact type of the battery. It's about only a third in length of a AAA battery. You may not find this kind of battery in normal grocery stores, but any electronic store should have some. The markings on the laser are clear, and resemble the markings on the OTAL. the bottom has a throw lever mount.
The throw lever mount is kind of loose for my M4 CQB rail, but a piece of paper easily fixs the looseness. It sits just lower than the top of the front sight, so the sight is not blocked. One can of course mount it on the side if preferred. The laser is to the left of the device, and unlike Star's D-LAP, there's nothing on the right side, making the device even smaller.
The laser is 650nm red laser, and it's certainly bright enough for airsoft purposes, and in fact, I wouldn't turn it on in games to protect other's eyes. The zero adjustment is easier than that on some of the other lasers. No tools required. There are two dials on top and the left side of the device, and one can just turn it with fingers. The down side is the zero might be lost if the dial was accidentally moved when playing, but there are a white dot and a red dot on each of the dial, so you can easily tell whether the dial was accidentally turned.
The switch is at the back, and there are three settings: off, remote momentarily on, and constantly on. Two of those are self-explanatary. The remote momentarily on setting is for use with the pressure swich (included) which can be plugged in at the back. And in this setting, the laser is activated by pressing the pressure pad. There's also a piece of velco tape for one to fix the pressure pad to some place like a vertical grip.
In conclusion, the S-LAP is a slick laser pointer for AEG. The mount is a bit loose, but easily fixed. I like it more than the bulkier PEQ or PAQ, and it's all metal. The catch is its price tag, retailing at $125, much more than a normal PEQ or PAQ. |

I bought this laser because of two things:
a) I think it looks great and b) eHobbyAsia had a sale on, and it was fairly cheap (compared to say, Red Wolf).
It arrived fairly quickly (got to love the Asian postage system) and I slapped it onto my CA SCAR-L straight away. It is certainly a nice piece, very weighty and easy to adjust it for your aiming. One downside is the pressure switch function - sometimes the switch doesn't activate the laser, so I have to put the laser onto 'on' then back on to 'remote switch' before the damn thing works.
Overall though, if you want a standard laser dressed up to look like a pretty bit of kit, well, this is for you.------------------------------ שלום עליכםwww.stopwar.org.ukUKARA No. CSA00165
