SOCOM 3 is the successor of the popular PS2-exclusive mil-sim squad shooter games: SOCOM 2 and SOCOM. I won't attempt to review the game in any depth since I am not a hardcore gamer, and there are plenty reviews everywhere that reviews video games. Basically, in the single player campaign, you lead a US Navy SEAL fire team of four (including yourself, and occassionally you may get to control some other friendly units) to fight terrorist around the globe.
If you have played SOCOM 2 or SOCOM, the game will feel very familiar, the major changes include the updated graphic, bigger maps, operable vehicles, new weapons, and the ability to save at check points during a mission. The core gameplay hasn't changed much, the vehicles are much fun to play with, and the new checkpoint save feature makes the game a lot less frustrating but also less intense.
I don't have a network card on my old PS2, so no comment on the multiplayer portion of the game, but I've been told it's even more addictive than the single player.
In any case, you may be interested in this game if you are remotely interested in mil sim. The game rewards the player for using basic military squad tactics, and the models for various weapons, gears, and vehicles are quite impressive. It is arguably the best mil sim PS2 games available today.
