Very First Impressions:
I am the kinda guy that if I see something in a video game and I really like I do my research and see how if it is available and how much it will set me back. Rainbow Six: Lockdown, and more recently Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter have been no exceptions.
I noticed that with all your traditional gear that you can choose for you character in the multiplayer mode, this by far stuck out the most to me. At first sight I though, “WOW! That looks awesome!” It stuck out as intimidating and just seemed like it would be a pleasure to wear.
So I got on to Under Armour’s website and found out that their OD in the Heat Gear model was out of stock. So through the wonder that we know as Google, I finally found a site that carried the OD - http://www.goldmanbros.com/gc/customer/home.php (although they don’t seem to have the OD heat gear hood anymore although it may just be seasonal). I paid about $32 total with shipping, the hood itself retails for 24$, not a bad deal considering it got here in about 3 days.
As soon as I got it I immediately tried it on. I was amazed. I have a BHI Polypro balaclava and it can be an absolute chore to get it on and have it be comfortable around the eyes and nose. The thing fits like a glove! It is snug and contours the face but can easily be moved/converted (another feature I will go into next) with ease.
The hood can be converted into four different modes, depending on what you are wearing or the look you are going for.
1. Full coverage (balaclava style)
2. Half coverage (good with a boonie or helmet)
3. Fully vented (also good with a helmet, very SWAT look)
4. Neck gator (good for when you are at a safezone or break area)
Overall Performance:
This thing is VERY breathable! I had this on for an entire indoor event with my eyeglasses and my paintball goggles over that. Very minute fogging on the goggles and my glasses. Moisture just seems to vanish while wearing this. Which was kinda frustrating at times because I would have to keep soaking my hood in water to keep cool, very affective I may add, especially when you consider that with only a splash of water it will saturate the entire hood; but unfortunately because of UA’s “Moisture Transport System” the hood was completely dry after about 10-15 minutes.
Overall, the hood is mostly for looks, so if you don’t mind the sting of the BBs this hood is perfect for CQB but if you are looking for more protection, especially in woodland games where the FPS can get up there pretty high, you may want to opt for a thicker polypro balaclava, just be prepared to sweat.

Positive aspects of the product (pros):
|
Tight fit (no slipping around), protects mouth/teeth from bbs, comfortable, keeps you cool
|

Cons:
|
Uncomfortable when placed over nose

I bought this to meet the 18+ full-face coverage requirements for larger OPs. It is a wonderful bit of kit, wicking sweat and moisture away from your skin and keeping you cool. You can even feel a breeze going across the hood, which helps cooling immensely.
I own the lined ColdGear version of this hood as well. While thicker, it has essentially the same pros and cons of the HeatGear version. I personally love them both.
I don't get shot in the face much, and it doesn't bother me terribly when I do. That said, the lack of bb protection doesn't change my opinion on this product. A real plus is that the UnderArmor material covers your mouth, and I doubt a bb can rip through either Heat or ColdGear hoods. Therefore, your teeth are fully protected.
A great product, especially for the price. I wouldn't use anything less.
