Description: Steel gearset made by World element - standard ratio, flat cut gears. Which means they'll work in any normal gearbox. Chinese made, so they're cheaper than most other gearsets.

Positive aspects of the product (pros): Cheap, stronger than stock gears
Cons: Slight imperfection in bevel gear - most likely just a lemon, and only a problem due to my gearbox

I got these second-hand from the forums (which is why the price isn't listed), as I'd recently acquired an AIM M4A1, and the gears ate themselves on the first outing. So, I wanted something cheap and intact. By chance, slacky was selling these (Kudos to the man!) for a good price, so I snapped them up so that The M4 would actually work!

On arrival, I wasn't that impressed. But, then again, I doubt I would be by any gearset arriving – they're hardly the most exciting things in the world!

The piccys at the top of the review show a comparison between the XYT gears that were in the M4 and the Element gears – in all pics, the XYT gears are on the left. Unfortunately, due to my camera being rubbish, you can't really see much. The only real difference is the colour – the Element ones are Black, If memory serves me right – they're in the gun right now, so I can't check! But, they look to be good quality – I couldn't scratch them with any of my various screwdrivers, whereas I could leave marks on the XYT gears without too much hassle. Should stand up to a lot of punishment!

I've yet to skirmish the gun with the new gears, but it seems to cycle fine, without chewing the gears up, so they should last quite a while. Once I get a chance to skirmish with it, I'll be able to comment on the reliability of them.

The installation should probably be talked about... For the most part, it was painless, just a case of taking the old gears out and putting the new ones in – and the re-shimming, of course. However, the bevel gear didn't want to play nicely with my Gearbox – from what I can tell, it's got a small lump on the side of it, and it rubs against the gearbox shell and makes it damned hard to turn. As such, I've left the XYT gear in, as it was undamaged. It'd be a very simple job to remove the lump, but Unfortunately all my tools are 255 miles away at home, so I can't fix it! Should be simple for anyone with a file or some sandpaper to sort out, though.

I will point out that I suspect over-zealous tolerances in the gearbox are also partially to blame with the bad fitting of the bevel gear, as the AIM M4 isn't exactly the most high-end gun. Any non-reinforced box should be fine, too – the AIM has a reinforced stly box, and it rubs against the reinforcing.

Overall, a good set of gears, and they should last for ages and ages. Or, at least last through me setting my hop-up!
