The Airsoft Elite QuickWind M-4/M-16 Hi-Cap Magazine
I’m a fan of hicaps. I know the purists out there may scoff, but I like having 300 rounds available without having to carry loads of magazines around or changing them all the time. Each to their own though, eh?
I was looking for some new hicaps for my armalites, and I was offered the chance to try out the new Airsoft Elite QuickWind model from Monda International.
So what’s the big advantage of the QuickWind magazine? Well, like the unit that comes with the VFC HK416, this model has a hole in the side and comes with a small wrench to enable you to wind the mag very quickly. Unlike the VFC magazine however, you still get the wheel on the bottom in case you need a quick wind-on mid skirmish (so you don’t need to keep track of the wrench in combat).
They are available in 4 colours: Grey, Black, Sand and OD. While all of them look great, I was particularly impressed with the black shiny one, as it comes with HK trades printed on it. I’m not normally interested in trades myself, but this mag looks goooood. Perfect for any HK416 owners!

Apologies for the speckles on this close up, which are caused by a little lint on the mag. The finish is actually fantastic. The finish on the other colours is matt, with no trades.
How they work
The wrench goes into the left hand side of the magazine, and just takes a couple of turns to prepare the mag for use. I was a bit concerned about losing this wrench in a skirmish, but the wheel on the bottom means I can safely leave it with the rest of my kit in the safe zone. When using my guns in full auto, I found that the magazine fed consistently without the need to touch the wheel, though I used it occasionally during semi-auto games.

Compatibility
I tested this with TM, CA and G&G armalite variants, and it fitted every model. While there was a little wobble with some magwells, this never impaired performance. The magazines locked in with a very positive click.
Feeding
In full auto, I never had to touch the wheel. During semi auto games I did need it and on one occasion I had to take the mag out and tap it on my helmet to release the BB’s, but once out of two days play isn’t a problem.
In conclusion, I’d recommend these to anyone looking for a good quality M4/M16 magazine that both fits and feeds well.
Incidentally, I forgot to add where to get these: at the moment, their sole US supplier is www.a-a-sports.com, otherwise contact http://www.mondaint.com/ for dealer info.
