Tokyo Marui PSG-1 Review by mILILANIsHOOTER
(Review done in Hawaii) (56k beware… LOTS OF PICS!)

Why a PSG-1?
-Well I got it for its looks and how big that thing is… some people may not like the looks of the PSG-1, but I’m one of those people who like the carrying handle on the Famas…(lol)
-And besides…a semi-auto sniper rifle sounded really kool to me...
-Also not too many people own a PSG-1…
Looks:
This gun is very well built and turn’s heads when you head out onto the field….the gun comes with a PSG sniper grip which is very comfortable when holding the gun, and when you are on the field you feel the grip just mold into your hands…
The scope is nice and comes with the rubber eye cup and a scope protector in the front, so you don’t get a broken lens if someone were to shoot at it…. Another thing about the scope is that the front isn’t colored (like a red); it’s nice and clear so it won’t give away your position…
The stock is also very nice and the cheek piece can be adjusted by the turn of a key….
The cocking bolt actually functions with this gun, you can cock it and it will load the first bb for you….I wouldn’t suggest playing around with it too much because its made out of plastic, and plastic things break….Some pics below….

Seeing through the Tasco 4x40mm scope….

PSG-1 Sniper Grip…..

Close-up on the scope…..

Business end of the gun, notice the scope….. its not red!
Explanation of the stock…

The key that comes with the box……

Insert here….Turn left to loosen….Turn right to tighten…..

Pic of the cheek piece raised…..
Accessories:
The PSG-1 comes standard with the scope and PSG grip…
Magazines are the same as all other G3 mags, this one comes with a small 15 round magazine, but I would suggest you to buy 1 high cap or a lot of low/mid caps for this gun because 15 rounds isn’t enough, and I guarantee you that you are going to need more than 15 shots to hit somebody…
There is no flashider on the PSG-1 but there is silencer attachments for it which will allow you to put a silencer on….I don’t see why you would because this thing is long enough already…

PSG mag on the left, and regular G3 mag on the right….
The Gun:
The gun only shoots semi-auto….
And whenever you shoot the gun the ejection port actually moves when you pull the trigger, I guess it’s just to simulate a bullet flying out….
Internally it uses a Tokyo Marui Version 4 Gearbox and also uses a Special EG700S motor….
This gun also has a kool feature, there is a switch that lets you decompress the spring, more for improving the life of the PSG-1 (the Famas has this too), you push the switch forward with some pressure and you hear the gear make a funky sound, and that’s it, the spring is decompressed…there’s a pic of the switch below….

“0” for safe, and “1” for fire…..

Pic of the Decompression switch….
The Spec’s:
-Gear Box - Version 4
-Motor - EG700S
-Magazine - 15 Rounds or 70 Rounds or 500 Rounds
-Length - 1220mm
-Height - 275mm
-Weight - 4300g
-Chronoed at 305-315 fps (using a guarder chrono)
Batteries:
The PSG-1 uses a 8.4 small battery or a 8.4 AK stick battery that you place in the stock…..
Either one is fine to use in this gun…The gun comes with Mini Tamiya Connectors, but I switched mine to deans, so I can get a better connection……
~Direction’s on how to open Battery Compartment~
1. Twist rubber butt plate left or right (either way is fine) pic below….

2. Locate the Battery door….

3. Open and pull out the connector (notice the dean’s connectors)

4. Insert battery and shut the door…..

-But I use a custom 9.6 1700mah (made by the guys at Epowersports) pic below…

Fitted with deans connectors….
Hop-Up:
The hop-up dial is located in the ejection port of the gun… just pull the cocking handle back and lock it into place and then you can adjust the hop-up. Some pics below…

Pull and lock back cocking lever….

Which reveals the hop-up dial… turn left to increase hop, turn right to decrease….
Power/Accuracy/Performance:
The rate of fire is on how fast you can pull the trigger…As I said before it has a EG700S motor in it, and for power it is shooting around 305fps to 315 fps on .2g bb’s. It has pretty good accuracy and groupings thanks to the length of the inner barrel which is about 590mm.
Now here are the groupings…(tested with KSC .25g HG BBs)

14 shots in black, and 1 in white…..

7 shots in black, and 8 in white…..
All in all, its pretty impressive groupings for a stock gun….
Upgrading is highly recommended if you want to become a sniper….
Pro’s:
+ Great Range (Long barrel)
+ Big (Good for me)
+ Weight (my opinion)
+ Good counter sniping weapon
+ Comes with a Tasco 4x40mm Scope
+ Comfortable to hold
+ Magazine’s (can use the same mags as a G3)
Con’s:
+ Long/Big (might be too big for small people)
+ Semi-Auto (might not to appeal to others)
+ Battery Space (Even with custom fitting, we can only see a 9.6 in fitting in the stock)
+ Scope (limited to 4x magnification, and has some wobble to it)
+ Too much plastic (which there was more metal)
+ Version 4 Gearbox (hell to deal with it, when upgrading)
Conclusion:
The PSG-1 is great gun, mostly for veterans. I think this gun will be way to complicated to use for beginners. In my eyes the PSG-1 is a kool gun to have because not to many people have them, and it can be a great weapon for a DM, if you want to become a “sniper” you would have to upgrade this gun quite heavily (barrel and everything). Great Collectors item. If you want to own a Decent Mid-Range Sniper Rifle, this is the perfect gun for you!
