UW is a great skirmish site with two friendly guys running it, Dean and Shaun.
A Typical Day:
After you've arrived, and booked in, those hiring weapons are given a run through of their use and the types of games we play down at the site, and then Shaun will commence his famous briefings. After a run down of the site rules, players are sent out into the field, a short 75m walk from the large barn used as a safe area, commonly refered to as the 'lock up'. A mandatory Chrono will then take place.
The first game of the day will usually be along the lines of Attack/Defend the large fort central to the playing area, called the Alamo. The alamo is a large wooden structure, surrounded by foliage to the back, an air-portable land rover 3 o'clock of it, a small bunker to the left, and to the front, a relatively new "base" on the site, R-Point. This area is what could be refered to as the Alamo's corale, and is usually the boundary for the defending team.
After the game has ended, the two teams will usually swap around their roles, and run straight into the next game after a 5 minute "face-off".
Games of this nature usually continue till lunch, in which we, as players, have an hour or so's break, in which freshly cooked burgers are served straight off the Barby. (lots of other items of food are availible, and veggie meals are brought down by the staff on request.)
The food is always excellent, and lunch usually ends up as a social get together for the regulars of the site, who are all approachable and friendly guys.
After lunch we usually run straight into the more complex games that are played down at UW, such as "Medic Mayhem", VIP related games, and the ever popular game involving a timed attack on all three of the major Fort structures at the site.
The Staff:
Dean and Shaun are both very friendly guys, who are incredibly approachable at any time, and unlike other site organisers, dont seem to be in it for the money, they both take immense satisfaction in seeing people enjoy themselves. They are usually aided in the general running of the site by Chrissy, a great guy and a player marshall at the site, who is a whizz with all things technical and along with Dean, is always happy to help out with any gun problems.
To conclude, UW is a great site for a brilliant day out. The only criticism i have of Ultimate Wargames is how the days just dont seem to be long enough!!
