Positive aspects of the product (pros): Ultra High Quality, High Durability Build
Cons: Expensive

After my first Pelican #1600 Handgun Case I was definitely hooked on the Pelican brand and quality of work. I decided to get this #1720 case to carry multiple long arms. I was even happier to find out they now make these in OD and Desert Tan.

The cases specifications as follows:

*Interior Dimensions: 42.00" x 13.50" x 5.25" (106.6 x 34.3 x 13.3 cm)
*Watertight, crushproof, and dust proof
*Easy open Double Throw latches
*Open cell core with solid wall design - strong, light weight
*O-ring seal
*Automatic Pressure Equalization Valve
*Fold down handles
*Strong polyurethane wheels with stainless steel bearings
*Stainless steel hardware and padlock protectors
*Pick and Pluck Foam Inserts

This generation of Pelican cases has a newer double throw, heavy duty latch system. Easy to open and close compared to my older #1600. The Desert Tan is darker and more drab then a traditional tan.

At this point I'm still debating which mix of AEG's will use this case. But the case came supplied with Pick and Pluck foam, so creating custom cutouts for the weapons and accessories is very easy. Will post more pics as the decision gets finalized.

Like with the Pelican #1600, this case is on the expensive side, but quality and protection wise it's a good choice for my weapons.

This case(s) will also come in handy on my next Japan trips Wink

Pelican 1700 Series Gun Cases

I picked up these two cases (1700 and 1720) as a long-term storage solution for my stay at West Point (it might be four long years of not seeing my guns L). I ordered them through Pelican’s site and they arrived about five days later.

First impressions? Two words: Holy **it. These cases are exactly what you imagine them to be; a hard plastic gun safe. These things weigh a ton, the 1700 loaded weight being 25 pounds and the 1720 weighing a heavy 45 pounds (that jump will more sense in a moment). But that weight isn’t wasted in these things, their rock solid and feel like they can take a beating. The plastic used is one of the most heavy-duty blends I’ve ever encountered and feels like you could role over it in a car without much worry.

On to the meat of this, the cases are both essentially the same, the 1700 being 35 inches inside and the 1720 being a little larger at 42 inches. The both have an o-ring seal that is rated to a 20-foot depth without leaks, which if your just using it for average storage, is a comforting feature (we all know how moister destroys guns).

The cases come with two handles, one on the side for normal carry and another handle on the top edge with wheels on the opposite side which aid in moving the cases (a feature you will learn to appreciate rapidly)

The latches on the cases are extremely heavy duty and definitely won’t open up easily like cheaper hard cases sometimes do. It’s a duel latch system and it requires a bit of force to crack her open.

On the inside there are three layers of polyurethane foam packing, again very heavy duty. The cases come with packing instructions and advise that you cut the middle section in the appropriate shape. This was my one complaint with the cases (sorta), the manual suggests you use an electric cutting knife to remove the outline. I did so for the 1720 and found that this, and a fixed serrated edge tore up the foam (they weren’t cheap knives either). On the second case I used a plane edge knife and it came out amazingly better (no jagged edges) so I would suggest you ignore the manual in that one respect.

For airsoft guns these cases are a dream, Their very roomy and I was able to fit two M4A1’s (a Star M4A1 and a CA M15A4) with a battery, and two mags, and in the other case I fit another Star M4A1, mag, M68, ACOG, cleaning/charging/loading rod, and a battery. Once slipped into the their foam “pockets” everything stays nice and secure and has zero movement.

I’d say these cases are definitely the best case you can get, probably the most expensive too, but are absolutely worth the price.
