Despite the avid airsofters that we all are, sometimes we just wanna put down our various AEGs,GBBs, etc, and just do a little old fashion target practice with BB guns. If your in the marktet for a high end BB gun, the Gamo varmint stalker is an excellent gun.

Ever since I was younger I always remebered the movie a Christmas Story. The whole premisis of the movie was a young boy who wanted his first BB gun, a Daisy Red Rider. And that is how I began to get interested in the BB guns. My first BB gun was not a Red Rider, instead it was a Crosman 1777 target pistol ( I later added a stock so its kind of a carbine) I will be comparing this rifle to it.
Getting the Gamo-
My friend and I happened to be at the local sports authority (he was looking for a leatherman multi tool. Now as many of you know, sports authority also carries BB guns. Bored, I went over and asked the man behind the counter how much the Gamo Varminet hunter was. He took the rifle and went to check on the price. After waiting for about 15 mins, I was getting ready to leave. On my way out he was talking to the manager when I decided to wait a couple of more minutes. As it would turn out, they couldn't find a price for the gun...so they made up the price of 29.95, which I instantly snatched up. As I drove home, I was excited to check out the awsome deal I had just gotten.
-The rifle-
The rifle is manufactured by a Spanish Company Gamo, whichis one of Europes largest manufacutres of BB pistols+rifles. Since the rifle I bought was a floor model, there was no box or instructions. However it is not that hard to figure out how to work the rifle. As in the name of the rifle implies, this is meant for pest control (no that is not why I bought it). The rifle is usally packaged with a scope+laser flashlight combo, retailing the rifle aroud a TM or CA rifle range at $229.00. That being said, $29 was a huge steal.
Construction
The stock is a solid piece, all synthetic and all weather and is a dull gray color. It features a non adjustable cheek rest, and the butt is made of vented rubber to reduce the small amount of recoil that hte gun has. It seems like it can take a fair share of abuse. It has a "tactical" feel to it. The rest of hte gun is built like a tank, there is little plastic used. The scope mount is a 3/8 dove tail type. The only plastic is the compensator thing at the end of the rifle. The gun itself must weigh atleast 3 pounds. Overall, very satistying feel.
Fireing mech./Shooting
This gun uses a break-barrel action. What that means is htat the front barrel when the safety is engaged, will cock downwards in one motion, puming air into the gun. This is also how you load the gun, it should be noted that it only accepts PELLOTs NOT BBs. The approx. pull for pumping the gun is rated at 38pds. However it is one pump, and your good to go. The safety is placed near the trigger, closest to the trigger and the safety is engaged, foward and your good to go. Now when I bought this gun, I was not aware of the FPS on it. I must warn you , this is certaintly not a toy gun, and if a youth is using it, adult supverision is required. The gun depending on ammo type shoots hot at 1*** FPS. Due to the high power of the gun, it actually kicks a bit. In addition to that depending on the pellot you use, it can range from loud to very very loud. So becareful when using it! Slap on a decent scope, and the gun is dead accurate. Trigger pull is alitte on the long side, but once you break it in, it shold be good. The specs. on the Gamo site says that the gun is effective up to 225m, but I am sure it can shoot alot farther.
Conclusion-
So if you want somthing for casual plinking in the back yard this may or may not be the right gun for you. The solid construction of the rifle means that it will last many years with proper maintence. The high degree of accuracy means you'll probally hit whatever you set your sites on. However a high MSRB price tag+ high power may scare many people away. For one thing, if you live close to neighbors, noise may be a big factor. If that is the case, consider other gamos, or the crosman 1777c. If you do however manage to get this rilfe, you will not be disappointed.
