I bought these at my local army surplus shop, as i needed a pair of gloves to protect my hands from pellets, and also from assorted other stuff, like self inflicted knife knicks, and rope burns.
As protective gloves, they work well enough. the insulation acts as reasonable padding for most of the glove, and the extra foam on the knuckle/back of hand area works pretty well. I wouldn't go replacing your boxing gloves with them, but for the average scrapes, knocks and pellet/painball to the knuckles, it works fine.
the leather is fairly tough, and so they also protect well from occasional accidents with sharp objects, and also from things like rope burns, hot objects, and even limited exposure to fire*
The main issue with these gloves are that you loose a lot of dexterity. The thickness of the padding means that small, fiddly jobs go down the tubes, and can affect trigger control (some millitary and police types cut off the trigger finger on their issue versions).
They are also not something I would suggest in the summer months. the thinsualate type lining is very warm. When you are bimbling about in sub-zero temperatures, they are lovely and toasty. But in warm weather, they would rapidly become intolerable.
*The author does not suggest exposing these gloves to fire. the leather might offer some protection from fire, the polyester cuff certainly doesn't.
