Positive aspects of the product (pros):
|
Heavy, high metal content slide, inexpensive, accurate (for springer)
|
|
Cons:
|
Still a springer after all, hop up fixed for .12g BBs

Appearance:
The UHC Heavy Weight M9 is modeled after the Beretta 92FS, but doesn't have any official Beretta trademarks. The slide finish is excellent. In fact it is the best finish on a springer I've ever seen. It is a metal-plastic hybrid with high metal component. The metal component is so high that it actually attracts magnet, and it looks and feels nothing like plastic. The frame, on the other hand, is not as well polished. The black black paint on the frame is decent, but the left side of frame and the right side of the frame are not tightly glued together, especially the part under the barrel. There is no tactical dots nor dovetails on the sights.
The gun is heavy weight, and there's weight in the grip in addition to the magazine. Unlike other springers, even without the magazine in, the gun's center of mass is pretty balanced toward the grip due to the weight in the grip. The magazine simply add more weight to the grip.
Performance:
The gun has working hammer, but non-moving slide safety. The slide does not lock back, and the slide lock lever acts as safety when pushed upward after the hammer is cocked. The slide action is medium, but not smooth. The ejection port is open. The trigger moves back into single action position when the hammer is cocked. In single action position, the trigger pull is light, but the trigger spring squeaks when the trigger is released. Load BBs by pushing them one by one from the top of the magazine. The magazine holds 21 BBs. The magazine fits well in the grip. It does not wobble inside the grip, but it slides out smoothly when pressing the magazine release bottom.
The gun uses 0.12g BBs (but can take .2g BB without much problem), and the accuracy is excellent in close range (15 feet). A grouping less than two inches can be easily achieved. The power is also decent for springers. It can not penetrate the side of an aluminum can, but can put a big dent on the side.
The gun is field strippable similar to the real firearm it's modeled after.
Final Remarks:
Overall, this is one of the best springers around, especially if you factor in the price. The slide looks awesome, the whole gun feels balanced and fits well in hand. Field strippable. The accuracy is excellent, and the power is decent. A must have for springer lovers, airsoft beginners, or John Woo fans.
After a few month of use and abuse (and I mean abuse), and shoot about a couple thousand rounds through it, a little piece on the back end of the slide breaks off because of the vibrations caused by shooting, but it does not really affect the look and the performance of the gun. The trigger, however, becomes over sensitive. When the air piston is cocked, a light touch on the trigger may trip the piston catch without tripping the hammer catch, so the gun will shoot the BB out without the hammer falling. Using the slide lock lever may also make the gun fire un-intentionally without touching the trigger.

Accurate, solid, great price, good accuracy and range.

Safety is a bit iffy.

I couldn't be any happier with my UHC M9.
It's just remarkable for the price.
Initial Impressions
The gun comes in a box, nice presentation, with a piccy of the gun, M 92 on the box, and UHC's Heavy Weight badge. Upon opening it, you're greeted with the usual safety leaflets and the instructions, as well as the gun, magazine, and a small box of .12 gram BBs which are very nice quality.
Onto the Gun.
When I lifted it out of the styrofoam, I was happy that I hadn't done so with enough force (I thought it was gonna weigh four ounces.) It feels completely solid, and all was in order when I opened it. The lightest part of the sidearm is the slide, so don't rack it too hard; but it does however feel extremely secure, so don't be worried. It's held tight against the frame, and doesn't wobble on it's trip back and forth.
The mag holds an impressive 21 rounds, and feeds flawlessly.
The safety is working, and not too loose but not too tight, either. The first time you try to actuate it, it may feel solid; but don't be afriad, it'll wear in with time, but never so much that it's too easy to move.
When you just pull the trigger on the gun (for shooting those invisible bad guys in your house), the hammer rises and falls in a double action mode. When you cock it, the hammer stays back untill the trigger is pulled*, where it falls (just for looks) and the spring lets the BB sail out of the 4.9 inch barrel. The slide can be cocked with the safety on; however, there is a slight problem with it: When you manually pull back the hammer in dry-fire baddy-shooting mode, (When you do this, nothing inside the fun moves, so it's okay to do it; it's not like actually pulling back the slide and firing), and then you turn the safety on, it won't fire. But, if you're just pulling the trigger, the hammer will rise and fall even with the safety engaged as if it were not. Don't worry though, if you rack the slide (actual shooting mode), the safety will function seemlessly.
Performance Evaluation
The thing is damn accurate for it's size. I'm very impressed. When using high quality .12 grams (That's almost an oxymoron; it's hard to find good .12s ), I can get THE SAME RANGE AND ACCURACY AS MY UHC MP5 SD3 RIFLE. (see me other review.) Of course since it's a pistol, it's more compact and faster to cock, too.
"Okay, but what was that * for in your second paragraph?"
*: Trigger pull. Not usually something worth mention on airsoft weaponry, but with this gun, it's a different story.
The trigger pull is so VERY smooth once the slide is racked; it's hard to describe, but it's definately the most comfortable I've ever encountered. It's a smooth, wobble-less, creak-less trip, which can contribute to your accuracy.
Overall, the gun's very exellent indeed, and there's not many ways to perfect it for the price. A do-it-yourself mod that I did is to dot the sites using white-out. (Liquid-paper FTW!) It'll help your aim immensely, especially at night and in low light conditions. It only takes 4 seconds and it has such a positive influence, so you may as well. The sights stock are just black, so it's hard to see the against your target sometimes.
I ordered mine from http://www.airsoftatlanta.com/ and since I live so close, next-day shipping was only 2$ :D
If you'd like a spring sidearm and you want reliability, performance, and value, get the UHC M9 Heavy Weight.
Cheers,
Matt
