I'd been considering getting a clone AEG (more to see what all the fuss about them was than anything...) but was undecided about what to get. It was after browsing on RSOV's site (www.rsov.com) that i came across the Double Eagle M89 (UMP/UMG clone) which in itself is a copy of the G&G UMG (reviewed elsewhere on this site) Now i'd been contemplating getting an H&K type AEG, more as an alternative to using my Famas SV and had been torn between getting the G36C or the MP5. The UMP falls quite neatly into the "In Between" category - Meaty looks combined with good CQB potential. After a lengthy amount of consideration (well, about 40 seconds or so ) i placed an order for the M89 and 2 extra Hi-Cap magazines.
The box arrived within a week (no hassles at all! Cheers Keith :D )and i eagerly opened the wrapping paper to see my purchase.
This is what you get -
The M89 AEG (well, DUHHH! )
set of cheap ballistic airsoft goggles (haven't had the chance to test 'em yet, so can't really comment on their durability)
8.4v 1100mAh AK-type "Stick" battery
rod cleaner
2 pin Battery charger (threw it as i like to use my fast charger/discharger multi-doo-dah Battery pack charger)
cheap sling (used it with the gun and pleased to say it's holding up fine)
small bag of BB's
budget pistol-mag-style Speedloader
It's also worthy of note that some versions of the M89 come with a Lo-Cap mag as standard, whereas mine came with a 500 round Hi-Cap.
First things first then...
Apparently this is a Version 2 (yes there's a Version 1, but i'm not a "Tech-Head" am i, so i couldn't tell you the difference... ) of the G&G UMG SMG. The gun is quite solid, weighing a fair bit (hazard a rough guess of around 3 or 4kgs) On the left of the upper receiver is the "Double Eagle" Logo and M89 CHINA.
And that's it...
No other H&K markings (well it's a clone, whaddya expect? Sheesh!)
The cocking lever is metal and when pulled back, exposes the HOP on the right hand side (ejection port on the real version) Yes, you can do the "HK Slap" with it (but i value my cocking lever, so i won't push my luck )
The magazines are weird to load. Whereas on an AEG like the MP5 or M4 the Magazine feed is at the front, on the M89 it's at the back (bloody annoying when you're not used to it and try to insert the magazine the wrong way round) but after practice, it becomes second nature. The Hi-Cap magazines allegedly hold 500 rounds (but i'm not counting every single one, so don't quote me) The mags feed pretty good, but there are a few instances (like at OP: MA3) where the magazine would feed fine and then suddenly would stop for no reason (even though there's plenty in the mag wound on) Apart from that, all the Hi-Caps fed very well. On another note the magazines (Standard and Hi-Cap) for the G&G UMG/UMP are compatible with the M89! Bonus! The G&G magazines fed flawlessly, only leaving 2 or 3 straggler BB's upon emptying the magazine.
Now it's also worthy of note that the FPS of the M89 out the box was a little "Hot" (Chronoed at Spectre at 350 FPS+) However, it has been downgraded (cheers Yams) and now fires at a respectable 285FPS give or take 10% +/-. Range is around 60 feet or so (more than adequate for CQB) with me being able to hit a man sized target at those distances.
The battery can be a bit fiddly to insert (or maybe it's just because i have "Pork-Pie" fingers ) To insert the battery, you must first disengage the stock by pressing the stock release button on the left of the stock and folding it to the right. The battery compartment door can then be unlatched by pushing down on it and pulling down. The M89 takes the 8.4v stick battery (says 9.6v on the box, but it's been covered over with 8.4v stickers, so i'm not gonna argue) The battery slides down the hole and the connectors are then connected to the AEG terminals and then tucked away into the compartment and locked up. The stock is then disengaged by lifting it up and swinging it back round until it locks. Safety, semi and full are highlighted as per H&K standard and lock into their respective modes with a solid click. The sound of the gun is also quite meaty (don't expect to be sneaky with this bugger!) I had a full days game play with it before the battery needed changing (yes, it's always a good idea to invest in a spare battery like i did)
Moving on to the rear sights, they can be adjusted height-wise and left and right and can also be flipped up for longer ranged shooting, or lowered for pistol-style sights. They're good when out in the open, but can be a bit awkward in low-light (nothing a Red Dot Sight wouldn't fix) The gun also comes with 3 RIS rails (one on either side of the barrel and one under the barrel) I didn't like the feel of the RIS when holding it and invested in a TM Vertical RIS grip (which improved handling the gun loads and also makes it look like a meaty MP5K when the stocks folded)
Also if you intend like i do to play in CQB, i found that with the stock folded it was much easier to maneuver in tight spaces, than if it was left unfolded.
As mentioned before, the gun is compatible with the G&G UMG/UMP magazines AND the QD silencer!
Extras?
well i know there's a twin magazine clamp available which allows you to have more than one magazine at hand (although how useful this is gonna be when you have the stock folded is going to be debatable) The RIS rails accept all 20mm railed sights/taclights/RDS/Grips/Microwaves.... Well, okay maybe not that last one...
Overall, it's a solid little weapon (no squeaks for me!) and is a nice alternative to an MP5 or a G36. For a clone, i can honestly say i'd recommend it due to the price it costs and what you get for that price. Yes, the build quality might not be on par with the G&G version, but for the price, you could do a lot worse.

*suitcase*, I best go and check it still works.

350 FPS, 500 hicap, cool cocking sound.

QC, QC, QC. Smells really bad from rubber finish, soft metal used on RIS rails

Wow, where to begin.
I am not going to put you to sleep with the RS history bah bah bah
Ok, short version: Dont buy this gun unless you feel like wasting money.
Long version:
I bought this gun because a guy at my site has a G&G UMP, very cool, shot nice.
Ok, first let me say that I am not a fan of DE. I had a DE AK 47, and it ok. But other clones are much better. Same deal here.
Mine was a lemon, yuck. It had scratches all over the body, the RIS on top for reddots was not alined. This was also an issue with my AK.
It smells to the high havens due the rubber finish. I really dont think it is healthy to breath around it lol.
The feed was loose in the gun, as was the inner barrel, gearbox, and pretty much everything else.
Cocking handle did pull back right at all, it wouldnt go all the way back. I could not access the hop because of this.
The RIS rails again bent when I was attaching stuff to them, just a laser.
The piston was in the way of the feed tube, so BBs couldnt get into the barrel. The gun cycled, but no BBs.
Wobbly stock, flops all over the place in between positions.
low ROF as well. I did shoot by putting a BB down the barrel and shooting. Range was poor, about 60 ft, max.
The plastic used on the mag is very weak and I almost broke the mag feed lips.
I am lucky as I got a lemon, and can get my money back.
In short, dont buy this, there are much better clones out there, IE JG G36c. It is only a bit bigger, and a miles better gun. Please, save your money and get something better.
If you must have a UMP, the G&G is the best in IMO. But even then, I dont trust G&G, I have seen a LOT of their guns break.
Heed me words lads, thar be dragons here!
