Positive aspects of the product (pros): Price, J-stock, weight, ROF, selector switch, FPS stock, CQB friendly, multiple sling mounts, fully ambidextrous
Cons: Stock release lever, fore-grip tabs, nylon bushings

Let me first say that this is my first Marui clone purchase, so my hopes weren’t to high but I know that a lot of people have reviewed JG/ECHO 1 models with much praise and for the money I decided that this was something worth buying.

OPENING THE BOX:

Expectations here were met, as I have seen the packaging of similar Chinese AEGs before. It is very similar to how Marui is currently packaging their AEGs (which I guess is to be expected considering it is a Marui clone). Everything was neat and secured in its proper place. Even came with a high cap! Quite a surprise, especially because the box specifically says that the “Capacity” is “50 rounds” (a.k.a.– a low-cap)

EXAMINING THE AEG:

First impression was “Holy crap… this is more solid than [my friend]’s Marui!” It should be noted though, that his MP5 is one of their first generation versions) but still! This gun has a surprising amount of heft for what it is and its cost. This is a big plus.

Other than the front sling mount, the gun is fully ambidextrous, another big plus. There are four sling mounts total (front left-side, rear right, rear left, and finally, one on the stock).

Speaking of the stock, I’m very satisfied with it, and my expectations of it were well exceeded. The J-stock included on the MP5SD6 blows my friend’s standard MP5 stock out of the water. The J-stock is much more sturdy and there is no wobble whatsoever (even when fully retracted). Another feature of the stock that spanks other MP5 stocks is its Crane stock style design; it is very comfortable makes aiming through the iron-sights much easier. But what impressed me the most about the stock was the fact that it can be retracted into five positions (yes, five). First is collapsed, second is 9cm out, then 11.5cm, 14.2cm, and finally fully retracted. This is a HUGE plus in my opinion. However the stock does have its faults, namely the latch to release the stock itself. It seems like it is very cheap plastic and I think it will break easily if care is not taken when retracting the stock.

The sights for the gun are nice, again very similar to Marui’s, etc. Seen one seen ‘em all.

Next, is the selector switch. Having used a CA MP5SD5 I can tell you this is one of the most frustrating things for a CA MP5 user! Let me tell you that their selector switches move WAY too easily. I have been killed so many times in game because the damn selector switch moved either from semi to safe or semi to full-auto (when full auto is restricted! Very embarrassing) or from semi to in between full-auto (which also results in the gun not being able to fire). Fortunately for the JG series this isn’t a problem. Switching from semi to single makes a strong “click” as it firmly locks in place and switching semi to auto is more of the same. The only thing that may throw you off is that when you switch from semi to safe, you will not hear as loud of a “click”, nor will you get the same “locking” feeling as you would switching to other cycles, if anything though this may help you get used to knowing when you are safe without having to think about it in game.

The silencer is something I wasn’t really expecting too much from and it was good I didn’t get my hopes up. It’s a plastic silencer, but for the money what do you expect. It’s hollow and seems pretty sturdily made, although there are seam lines present– not that seam lines affect performance however. The silencer “locks” into place quite well, but I’m sure it wouldn’t be a bad idea to check on it from time to time during a game.

Next, are the receivers. The lower receiver is very well made and definitely seems to be on par with the Marui MP5 series. The thickness of the material on the upper receiver seems very thin, only time will tell with how well it can withstand abuse in the field. However after comparison with the Marui MP5 it is very similar if not identical. Overall, textures are nice, and while there are seam lines, everything is smooth so there will be no irritating rough spots on the grip.

The fore-grip and bolt, again (getting redundant) seems to be on par with the Marui series, while the plastic isn’t as strong as the Classic Army’s I’m sure it won’t be a problem. There is however one thing that concerns me in this area, and those are the tabs that keep the fore-grip/battery compartment in place. The tabs themselves are, I believe, made of metal and seem to be fine, the problem is that one of them seems to slide into its slot too easily, which means it may come out during a game; something to be mindful of. However a easy way to keep them from coming out during game is to position your fingers on the fore-grip to cover both tabs– your thumb should cover one, while your middle-finger covers the other.

SIZE:

This gun is an excellent CQB weapon; with the stock retracted you are able to move much more freely than even most carbines with folding stocks. Like I mentioned earlier the J-stock really helps the maneuverability of this gun. Another interesting tidbit about this AEG is that because it is so compact it will easily fit into the small compartment of the Condor/OE Tech 42” tactical MOLLE rifle bags with its stock retracted (no need to remove the silencer!). You can carry both a carbine and SMG in one bag, which is a huge plus.

PERFORMANCE:

I unfortunately haven’t had the opportunity to get to use the gun extensively (as it is freezing outside…), which means I won’t be able to give you any groupings tests or give you an idea of range or accuracy I can tell you however that ROF is very good, easily comparable to a Marui (and possibly a CA), and it is shooting 345fps with .2g BBs. The box says 330fps so I’m assuming the gun will eventually settle down to that.

What is interesting however is that, while the gun’s motor is properly set (each shot makes an appropriate “thwat!” sound) the gun itself is LOUD! I mean, Wow! I don’t believe this is at all a problem I just think it’s funny considering the AEG is a supposed to be a suppressed weapon.
I will try my best to get the gun tested, but no promises.

OVERALL:

I must say that I am really pleased with this purchase. While I realize that the gun isn’t perfect and will eventually break in the future, I believe that I can easily get more than use out of this gun that what was initially paid for. I was skeptical of the JG/ECHO 1 at first but I will no doubt buy another clone (probably another MP5 to be honest) in the future. If you want a decent MP5SD6 for a very reasonable price you have found it.
