This is a review of the Marushin Maxi BBs 0.25g, I've been trying to get hold of some of these for a while, but it has been awkward since I'm in the UK and no British retailers stock them.
For the moment I haven't had the chance to try them out because of the appalling winds, so I'll just cover first impressions, price, retailer service and why I chose them in the first place.
Firstly, I bought them from AirsoftGlobal, which appear to be US based, but the package was shipped from HK, the service was fantastic, I ordered them on the sunday and they arrived on tuesday via FedEx, no customs charges.
They can be found here http://airsoftglobal.com/product_info.php?cPath=24_206&products_id=6814
The reason that I was so anxious to get some of these was this article on Airsoft Mechanics http://www.airsoftmechanics.com/home/content/view/19/29/
The subsequent Accuracy Test article was even more important in convincing me to buy some http://www.airsoftmechanics.com/home/content/view/18/29/1/0/
Th price of these is a little bit of an issue, I bought 3 boxes of 2000 BBs, this cost me £40 with shipping, so roughly similar to buying 3 bags of whatever BBs from the UK.
The problem is that bags of BBs usually contain 3000 or more, so essentially you pay the same money for less BBs.
If the performance of these BBs matches up to the Airsoft Mechanics article (and I did notice that their tests were conducted with 0.2g, but I expect these to be just as good) then the increased price will be compensated for with increased performance.
If you are using a 6.01mm barrel like I am then BB quality becomes very important, as you can remove the accuracy gained with the barrel by using cheap BBs, I consider it a waste to use anything but the best BBs, and I demand more accuracy from my gun than the laws of aerodynamics allow, so it is very important to me to get the absolute best possible from my gun.
First impressions are very good, the BBs appear perfectly spherical, with no marks or lines visible to the naked eye, the surface is very slightly rough, hopefully inducing a very slightly turbulent airflow, thus reducing drag, and increasing both accuracy and range, although probably imperceptibly.
As soon as the winds in the UK die down I will be testing them fully, and I will post a full update of the performance here.
So far I have rated them at 9, this may change, but is currently theoretical based on the aforementioned articles, with one point removed to cover the need to import and the increased price.
