Description: For the first time in airgun history, Gamo, Europe's largest pellet and bb gun manufacture has done it again, they have created the first mass market bb shotgun! Whether for plinking or small game hunting at close to medium ranges, the Viper is bound to get the job done. After a week of thinking about getting one, I decided to go to my local walmart for one..
Keywords: Shotgun, pellot, .22, bb gun

Positive aspects of the product (pros): Looks, practicality, spread, power, almost everything.
Cons: lack of rifling in barrel, shells are expensive.

This Gamo I just got is my second one, the first one, I have already posted a review on. However this is a totally different gun by all means. This is the first mass produced air shotgun. Which means that for many of us, it is finally a reality to own a shotgun with out going through fire arm regulations etc. But anyhow on to the actual gun.

Note- I will post pictures soon of this gun, so be ready for updates!

The box and whats inside the box-

The box is made of cardboard, though the packaging is nowhere near as good of that as a marui airsoft gun. The box in red intimidating font reads "Gamo Viper Express" and "adult use only". It also has a picture of a squirrel in a cross hair, making it obvious to anyone what the purpose of the gun is for (no I didn't buy it to hunt small animals). Inside, the gun is wrapped in plastic. Gamo also includes a small box of approx. 25 shells. There is also the usual paper work and there is the .22 pellet adaptor.
The out

The Build-

Like a real steel, the whole build and design mimics that of a shotgun, it has the bead at the end of the barrel and a ribbed barrel. It shoots .22 shot, but you have to buy specially made gamo shells for this gun. However if you don't fancy using the expensive shells all the time you can use the adaptor that it comes with. Made of metal this peice you insert just like a shell. But you can load a .22 lead pellot inside instead. It should be noted that gamo makes two versions of this gun, one retailing at $200 and the other at $249. I have handled both, and to be honest there is no difference. They both share the same specs. Anyhow I got mine at a steal at 149 at my local walmart. Another thing that people will notice is that when comparing this gamo to almost any other gamo, the stock is almost the same. That is because the gun is based on the build of other already existing and proven gamos. This gun is a break barrel, meaning in order to prime the gun, you must engage the safely then you cock the barrel forward once, then the gun is good to go. The effort is approx. 30lbs. On the top, the gun sports a 3/8' dovetail mount, I personally use a red dot for the gun. Also the stock is all weather synthetic, mine is full black.

Shooting-
With the pellets I believe this gun clocks in at 625 fps, and with pellets around 700? I've only shot it a couple of times, I can't really say for how accurate the gun actually is with pellets. It should be noted however that the gun lacks rifling i suspect due in part of the shotgun shell ability. But I will say that with using the shells the spread is pretty good for atleast 30 ft away. Trigger pull is a bit on the long side, but hopefully this will pass once I've worn in the gun in a bit. I will try to update this section soon. Noise is about average for a break-barrel pellot gun.

Bottom line-

Get this is you want something fun to plink with or to hunt within a close to medium range. Don't get this if you are expecting this to act like a real shotgun--its a good gun, but obviously the performance is not up to par with a real steel. Also take into consideration that the shells, if used alot are expensive, they are a one shot deal. However I am trying to come up with a way in which I could be able to reload and reuse the shells. I find that when i am using this gun, often i am using the .22 adaptor, for .22 pellets are signifgently cheaper then the shells.

*Update*
This gun, like all others, is dead accurate once adjusting in with a scope. considering it's non-grooved barrel. However for those using it for pest control, due to the lower FPS using .22 pellets, this is only good for dispatching small game. As for the shotgun feature, it is excellent at taking out birds at a close to medium range. We had a woodpecker destroying the side of our house, and needless to say the viper express took care of him.
