Taking advantage of two things at one time is always a cheeky bonus; thus why I am reviewing my newest AEG and only my second brand new AEG.
Firstly, it was recently my birthday, and brilliantly, I received birthday cash off of my lovely grandparents. Hmm, what to spend it on?
Ah, Airsoft Warehouse - a company which have given me very good customer service in the past, are having a G&G sale. Intriguing...
So, two birds, one stone. I will try to keep this brief, because I may add to this once I skirmish with it...
For £161, I had the AEG on my door step 24 hours after ordering it.
I must say this however, being an avid Ai reader, I am aware that G&G guns are prone to internal gremlins, and with this being my first G&G purchase, I am optimistic about the long term future of the original parts of this AEG. But for less than £155 for a metal, top-end AEG, I am willing to risk it. It was either the G&G GR16 R5 or a CA Sportline M4 I could add bits to. Now I have an Armalite with loads of add on bits as standard - such as a pair of rail covers (nice), a foregrip, a (I believe) tight-bore barrel, a ((again, I believe) free-floating barrel RIS system, a high powered motor, a metal body, a high-cap magazine (slightly larger than regular AEG STANAG magazines from my initial comparisons) and a lovely chopped BUIS. Not bad at all. This is a gun that Asian sites are selling at $472 dollars - or £230-ish to you and me. And we all know how much cheaper Asian sites usually are than rip-off UK...
The package - nicely protected in foam, also comes with an end-cap (sadly not the dummy 'blank firer cap' that many G&G guns come with), a Delta ring tool, a cleaning rod and G&G product booklets. Nice.
The gun itself is actually very light. I would say it is not as heavy as my G&P M16, and it feels no heavier than my Dad's TM M4A1; which is of course, mainly plastic.
However, it is well made; no visible seams in the body or add on parts and plenty of space in the butt for a large battery pack.
Putting an 8.4v large battery pack in, I took it to my back-garden with eager anticipation.
Firing on semi, the rounds appeared to be tightly grouped out to a range of 50-odd feet. The semi locked up after 10 rounds, but this is cleared by switching to full-auto. The motor sounds very quiet; again compared to my G&P M16. The RoF is good and the FPS is 280, according to Airsoft Warehouse's test card included in the box.
Overall, from my initial impression, this is a good addition to my AEG collection, although time will tell.
I wouldn’t pay the top end price for this gun, and to be honest, I wouldn’t have bought this gun at all (I am after a Galil ARM) if it wasn't in a sale.
But what I have learned is that Airsoft Warehouse still offers great customer service (although I only have a 30 day warranty as it is an end-of-line product for them) and I had this gun less than 24 hours after it was ordered.
For £154, this gun has potential; I can’t wait to see what it is like at CSW with woodland ranges. Maybe the lightness of this gun will lend itself to all-day yomping around the site…
Thanks for reading.
