Positive aspects of the product (pros): Compact, 600rd hi-cap availiable, 250rd hi-cap as standard, Large battery, High ROF, sturdy construction, built in RIS rail
Cons: Quite small, no production real steel equivalent, lack of external upgrade potential, shorter barrel means less accuracy

This AEG is one those that is often recommended in answer to the question "What am bestest newbie AEG?". I would say this is it. I bought one of these as my first AEG and have had no reason to change it.

First off, this is a Tokyo Marui. TM guns are often reccomended as Newbie AEG's because their sturdy build quality means that they can take a lot of abuse and still work. My Spetz has worked solidly for over 6 months, and the only problem so far has been a sand induced jam. It requires very little maintenance and it's nice and simple to use as well.

Secondly, it is the ONLY Marui to come with a hi-cap as standard. In the box is a 250rd 'short' ak mag. The full size ak47 mags also fit the gun, giving you 600rds of plastic death at your disposal. This high capacity for ammo is necessary when you consider the relatively high rate of fire the Spetz puts out.

Thirdly, it's a full stock replica, which means it can handle up to a 7 cell 8.4v easily. With a bit of work with a dremmel you can even get a 9.6v in there. Big battery means no changing them over mid skirmish.

Size wise, the Spetz is compact and lightweight, equivalent in size to an MP5. It's relatively short length makes it ideal for CQB, unlike the full size AK47.The full size AK is also a lot heavier, and I've had trouble carrying one for a whole day's skirmishing whereas this has never been a problem with the Spetz. The compact nature of the weapon and its lightness means that for the smaller or less well built user (like me) it's ideal, but stronger or bulkier Airsofters might find it feels a little too small.

Externally, there's not a lot you can do upgrade wise. There is a built in RIS on the foregrip which I use to hold a taclight or a vertical foregrip depending on where I play. Mounting a scope is not easy as you'll probably need to track down a real steel supplier for the mount: Freedom optics http://www.freedomoptics.com/Comersus/store/comersus_dynamicIndex.asp
have a good selection but they are not cheap. To be honest, for airsoft ranges a scope isn't really necessary; I use the iron sights but some people find that iron sights don't really mix with full face masks.

Internally, if you leave the gun stock you can expect it to behave like the duracell bunny; it'll go on and on and on. Upgrading to 328 is possible and kits to do so are avaiilable from most retailers, with the usual decrease in reliability uprgrading entails. I've left mine stock and never felt the need to upgrade as I've found the rate of fire and accuracy to be more than satisfactory despite the slightly shorter barrel.

Conclusion:
I would thoroughly recommend this to anyone looking for their first AEG or as a reliable alternative to the MP5 for CQB. It has a few downsides, the most prominent being the lack of external upgrade ability. However to be honest if you want something covered in a multitude of RIS rails, then buy an armalite :P.

Positive aspects of the product (pros): short, reliable, accuarte, high cap, practical
Cons: poor sighting options

well have to agree with the review above. Everything on the BETA is practical and hardwaring. It come with a clockwork (although it is not the only TM gun to do so: M16VN, G3SAS)

This 250 mag really helps keep the profile of the gun low, although most players have full size banana mags too.

The mech is crisp and the gun chronographs 265fps on average out of the box.

Some guy came down ranting about how LONG barrel AEG's are so much more accurate. The BETA won the contest (beating 8 other AEGS) even though it had a silencer fitted (TM version).

Works a dream with 0.20g ammo.

We ran the rental BETA on a 7.2v 1700mah battery and it chugges away just fine with a good enough ROF for my liking. Using such a low voltage battery will mean this AEG goes on firing well into the next decade. Truly a rival to the FAMAS for being a Land Rover of the Airsoft world.

Now, the SPETZ has had the full stock removed and battery fitted on the side of the chassis; it has become the most handy AEG you have ever seen..... way better than any MP5. Basicly, it is similar to the old limited edition TM AK SPETZNAZ with very limited modification.

Buy one now; before VCR kicks in, to ensure you having working kit for the long years to come.

Positive aspects of the product (pros): Ver3 Gearbox in CQB Size. Solid replica
Cons: Not based on a real AK variant for the AK purists

I chose the AK Beita Spetsnaz for a CQB (Close Quater Combat) role. I was debating getting this or an MP5 based AEG, but the AK won due to its' greater accuracy and reliabilty. This is due to the version 3 gearbox. I don't think i'll ever upgrade the gearbox (unless it breaks, knock on wood), but did add the following:

  1. Just AK47 Scope Mount
  2. Walther Red Dot Scope
  3. East Beta Sling

  4. Currently this is how the rig looks
    http://www.digitalwastelands.com/bbimages/airsoft/betas.jpg

The performance of this rig is rock solid like it's real steel conter part (BTW I own a Norinco too). This AEG has alot of metal parts included. It's weight is solid, but the stock is a bit short for me (Typical problem on real AK's too). With the red dot scope it's very easy to aquire a target and the small rail on the foregrip accomodates some small rail device. Unfortunately I've notices a good bit of flexing on the rail when using a vertical grip, so I only use a tac light.

One of the reasons I like airsoft so much is attention to detail and hwo well they replicate their real steel conterparts. The Beita Spetznaz was an invention of Tokyo Marui and a real version of this did not exists. I know i listed it as a negative point which for me it is, BUT is TM were a real steel company this woudl be one of the best variants of the shortened AK. The big plus of the Beita is it produce the 250 round shorty highcap mag.

Positive aspects of the product (pros): TM quality, small, sturdy, heavy
Cons: no folding stock, plastic body, hi-cap magazine only

Just to add a comment on the real steel. The russians never made this variant of the gun-the AKS74U is about 5cm longer. However the chinese have made some of these in 7.62x39.

I bought this gun as my first AEG and I have not regretted it. I have played with it almost in every game I have played and I have to say that it is very sturdy and reliable. I have it almost 3 years and with no service for over 10K bbs. The gun still shoots with no problems.

I will buy a metal body with folding stock from Inokatsu for 200$ to make it look more realistic. The only con is that TM does not make low caps with these magazines. I recomend this AEG for any newbie.
