Description:
|
Perhaps one of the most unique BB guns that I have come to own would be hands down the Drozd. Made in Russia, this is the only BB SMG that I know that has a select fire option. Created by the real steel manufacture IZH Baikal, this gun is an excellent example of when a firearms designer puts their "create-know how" into bb guns. The result is the most fun "gun" that you can own without the hassles of owning a real fire arm. The Drozd is the ultimate "big boy toy". So if you like fire power and awesome destructive abilities, read on. Oh, and I did not pay 279 pounds, its 279 USD!

Intro-
Out of all my airguns, the drozd would probably have to be the most unique out of all of them. It is the only gun that I have that is capable of select fire. And it is the only bb gun that I know that is a SMG design. Designed in Russia by the fire arms manufacture IZH-Baikal, it is one beautiful weapon. Sporting a full black polymer frame, there is some heft to the gun. THe gun itself is powered by a 12 gram Co2 cartridge plus 4 AA batteries. The batteries power up the circutboard, which controls the burst fire mech.
The Gun-
The gun comes neatly wrapped in a box sporting some russian writing. After unwrapping the gun and examining the box, the gun comes with the following: a speed loader, some metal bbs, and a 2 piece removable stock. The stock is made of polymer, just like the gun, and well made. The open sites are kind of cheesy, I had to paint them for faster target acquisition. There is a tiny 3/8s dovetail mount on the gun, good for a small RDS. It should also be noted that there is not a true safety on the gun (more on that later).
Firing-
Alas the fun part of the gun. The only active safety of preventing the gun from firing is making sure you turn off the power to the gun. In order to fire the gun, the circuit board switch must be turned on. There is red indicator to show if the gun is on or off. Anyhow, moving on. The gun has 3 fire modes, 1 shot, 3, or a 6 round burst. To add to more fun, you can choose the RPM which will translate how fast the gun will fire. There is a range of 340, 400, and 600 rpms. Be aware however, that the faster you fire, the more time it takes for the Co2 to recover. The Co2 unit is stored in the removable magazine. The magazine is full metal, and there are metal parts where they should all be. The magazine can fit approx 50 rounds of bbs, but I never fill it up to the top. FPS varies, but I'd say its around 500+.
Ammo*- I only bring this up, because prior to the gun, there is a whole debate as to what type of ammo your suppose to use with this gun. Some people say lead bbs, others steel. Some site that the gun will jam faster with steel bbs rather than lead. I have found this to be incorrect. If you buy this gun, I strongly recommend that you only use steel. The problem with lead, is that it deforms too easily, causing mis-feeds in the magazine. And if it causes misfeeds in the magazine, that leads me to believe that it will lead to jamming in the gun.
Conclusion-
Would I recommend this gun to everyone? yes I would. I guess it would deem it the ultimate "big boy's toy". It is truly amazing to fire, and it is hard not to smile every time you shoot it. It is defiantly a unique bb gun, and should not be overlooked.
here is the video that sold me on getting the gun-
