Pros: SOUND! SOUND! Wow its Sounds gooooooooooood!
Cons: Not as tight grouping, small battery

I have been playing Airsoft for over a year, playing twice a month every month at the Urban Assault sights near Peterborough. I love Airsoft, a full day out playing some great scenario gaming – guess what was missing?? Realistic guns - no, good game scenario - no, good gear – no, the sound the guns make- Yes. It is possibly the worst aspect of the whole detail of Airsoft, up until now!
The Tokyo Marui AKS74U fills the gap with the blowback feature, boy it rocks. I played a full day urban with an ear to ear grin as the sound and performance of this gun is superb. It even inspired me to play more aggressively as you just want to pull the trigger!
This gun gets compared to the VFC variant. I did look at the VFC in the shop but one thing that stood out was the same sewing machine whine and dodgy magazines, they are thinly constructed and i have heard they can snap of if knocked hard enough. The choice was really made when I test fired the TM Ak.
I’m not too good with tech specs of guns so here is a summary of its features.
• The range this gun was hitting targets was about 100 ft with a grouping of around 4 inches.
• High cap mags are 480 and come in black. The magazines are plastic and older TM AK mags are not compatible
• The battery compartment is in the hand grip and this is plastic
• The gun is metal – a light weight metal
• Very light , very stable
• Good build quality
• It takes 8.6 v battery – i have two and they lasted me a full day. I usually run a CA SAR with a 9.6 v battery and i could not tell the difference
• Not a tight grouping and this could be due to the recoil mechanism

If your going to buy one gun make it this gun.

Pros: Nice finish, blowback and recoil, folding stock.
Cons: Tricky battery change, plastic foregrip (but still nice).

Had this a few months now and skirmished it once, all i can say is its a real head turner and i love it.

As soon as i saw it i knew i had to have one, i have had a a TM AK74MN and liked that but it was just to long for my skirmish style.

Anyways on opening the box i was happy straight it looked fantastic, all the metal has a dull black finish (which i prefer to my Kalash version). My only worry was the fake wood foregrip and to be honest the finish on it isn't bad at all. But it just does not feel the same and gives it a plasticky feel at the front, i really think that after TM spent so much time on the metal body they should have gone the whole hog and fitted real wood (anyways i am going to try and make some or mod a set i have).

Next step was to charge a battery and give it a go, the battery goes in the foregrip just like on their MN version so you need to make sure you have enough wire on it so it fits correctly.

I tested this using my chrono and on average using .20's it was doing 298fps, very reasonable for a TM and more than adequate for me. Next i tested the RPM which came in at around 750rpm, not the fastest but still reasonable on a 8.4v mini.

The thing i liked most about it was the blowback and recoil it maybe me but it felt stronger and louder on the MN, i put this down to the SU you been shorter and lighter than the MN.

Below are some photo's i have taken and hopefully a video of the blockback if it works.

Any questions just and i will try and answer them best i can.
