Marpat is a new type of camo that has been developed by the united states marine corps and comes presently in woodland and desert patterns. It is a type of pixelated camo with others including CADPAT and ACU. Although at first you may smirk at the pixeled camo and think it looks silly this stuff really does work. It seems to work on the fact it is completely random with no patterns and also seems to work because of the small detail which when in the bigger picture or far away can blur and confuse the eye. Better info can be found here
On first impressions of top replica mar pat the most obvious thing is it is not exactly like the real stuff the main difference seems to be the main browny green colour that on real marpat is just brown. Real marpats colours are brown, green, black and tan, the replica has browny green, green black and tan.
Pockets
the replica marpat has 4 pockets on the front of the jacket that button up 2 button pockets on the sides of the trousers and some regular pockets in the sides of the trousers.
Comfort
the replicas are quiet comfortable but I have personally found my ripstock woodland bdu’s from flecktarn to be more comfortable. They also feel a bit more heavy and can be a bit hotter than the light woodland bdu’s. When they first arrived I should also say they where stiff but putting them through the wash made them a bit more moveable. This was not a big problem but I almost had to wear them in and they still don’t really feel as comfortable as the woodland bdu’s from flecktarn.
Pads
The replica marpat also has some compartments in the elbows and knees where some basic padding goes. The padding was some very gash cut out bits of this thin material and after a while I just removed them as they seemed to make the area hot acting like insulation and made my legs sweat a bit. With them removed the knees and elbows become more breathable again and also more moveable. Sizes are a bit odd but with boots are ok, initially the top felt a bit big and baggy while the trousers felt a bit short and tighter which can be an annoyance but nothing can really be done about as you buy them in medium, large and extra large not different tailored top and bottom for height and what have you.
The actual camo although not proper marpat is very good comparing with woodland and in some pics tigerstripe. It blends better and doesn’t have the lines that you can pick out like on the woodland. I would say it’s a little bit better than the tigerstripe (that I have there) as the tigerstripe is let down a bit by the light tan bits that stand out a bit when looking at the hats. Although this only shows a little how well it works in one environment…my garden, the pictures of the bdu’s on the floor (in open and shadow) shows well the colour of the uniform and may help more comparing with where you play. It seems to work quiet well in a variety of environments though.
I’m not sure recommend this uniform as it is quiet expensive for what you get, is a bit heavy, hot and can be uncomfortable. For almost half the price I brought some great bolle woodland ripstock bdu’s from flecktarn, which are lighter more comfortable and a perfect fit. If you are thinking of buying these for a marine look I would also highlight that the woodland version has some big differences in colour to the real thing and you may, like I was, be disappointed (the desert looks a bit more accurate though). On a final note though if you want to look a bit different (on or off the field) these might be for you. As a little extra they can be worn out and about on the streets looking cool and original while (as they are not so well known) not looking like quiet so like a nutter :P.------------------------------
