Absolute Airsoft is a relatively recently opened woodland site in Berkshire, accessible to the entire South East. The size of the site is about average for a decent woodland site, but there are several tight urban/CQB areas including a well built up village, 'com centre' and impressive 'kill house'. The terrain of the woodland itself is well varied, but not so much that older players would have any issues.
The size and design of the site lend themselves very well to both the more direct 'charging' approach and the 'sneaky b*stard' approach, giving ample room for large flanking manouvers. Outside of the main areas such as the village, man made barricades are scarce, but there is ample tree coverage for cam&con and setting up defensive positions.
The safe zone is fully covered and of ample size for the numbers usually received (which I have found are usually between 25 and 40 players per team in these conditions). The on site shop is well stocked with disposables and pyrotechnics, drinks and snacks, as well as plenty of gucci parts and accessories.
The 'Village' is a well sized area, fully barricaded with an impressive 2 story tower and several small huts, lending themselves to impressive attack and defend game scenarios as well as some tight encounters.
The 'com centre' is a similar area, with interlinking passages within the base itself and a well fortified exterior with limited entry points. Built on a shallow hill, this also lends itself to very enjoyable game scenarios.
The 'Killhouse' is probably the most impressive structure within the woodland site itself, however. An approx. 1200sq ft area (and set to increase) of small rooms, corridors and intertwining passages set up for some intense CQB scenarios. The killhouse also can be easily altered to provide different game scenarios every time you play. This small yet comprehensive structure allows full on CQB games to take place with good marshalling and generally fair play. Fair to say, this is a favourite with both regulars and new players alike.
All of the above charateristics, combined with undulating woodland terrain and well thought out scenarios make for some extremely interesting and enjoyable games.
The staff are always very friendly and remain both happy to give and receive standard friendly banter, but appropriately authoratative. Staff are happy to help out with any problems, including gun malfunctions.
Prices on disposables and the game fee are very competitive - A day's walk on fee is £17.50 with free lunch w/ fizzy drink of choice. There is also a degree of choice in the lunches available - Including burgers, hot dogs and chicken burgers.
So, it's fair to say that I am indeed a fan of Absolute Airsoft - But no site is without its drawbacks and complaints.
The main issue that would become apparent is simply the lack of refinement in terms of the brief, marshalling techniques and finite organisation. Now, by no means does this ruin what would otherwise be a fantastic day. But general consensus shows that a more detailed briefing would be appreciated at the beginning of the day for new players, and more prompt timings between games. A harder line on cheating, I feel, is sometimes required.
Of course, absolute is in relative terms an extremely young site and these improvements will most certainly come with time and commitment.
So, to summarise my review;
PROS
- Friendly staff and generally players.
- A wide array of various structures lending themselves to infinitely enjoyable game scenarios
- Varied terrain
- Well built safe zone
- Impressive CQB killhouse
- Very competetive prices
- Generally tidy and well made playing area
- Well thought out game scenarios
- Very easily accessible
CONS
- Perhaps a victim of its youth in some minor respects, nothing to detract majorly from an otherwise great site though.
- Harder line on cheating required IMO
So there it is. Absolute Airsoft Berkshire is, by just about all accounts an extremely decent site. Friendly staff, supoib scenarios and great terrain make a day's 'softing at absolute something never to be sniffed at. As a site, Absolute is both friendly to newer players as well as seasonened veterans. Regardless of your airsofting past, Absolute Airsoft is bound to give you a bloody good day out.
