It has come to a point in which most people will agree that going green is vital if we are to save the environment. One way that people can accomplish this is by changing the way that they commute. Besides mass transportation, biking provides an excellent alternative to this.
For those of you that live in a city where space is limited, look no further to the swift folder! Unlike many dahons, and other bikes, this bike rides like a true full size bike. This is a bike that is an excellent choice for those shopping for a new folding bike. While not as expensive as a Brompton or a Bike Friday, it is still very competitive compared to these pricier bikes.

The Xootr Swift folder is a perfect addition for anyone looking to either save a few bucks on gas, get exercise, or anyone who wants a cool looking bike.
I had originally gotten this bike to use from getting around from my dorm to the main campus at my college. I needed something that would fold and be easy to transport, something that could fit in an elevator and mass transit easily. Now I already have two bikes, a trek Fuel 90, and a Bianchi Eros. But seeing as I go to school in Philadelphia, I decided that I did not want to bring my high end bikes into the city. It was then that I decided on investing on a folding bike.
My criteria for the bike was that it had to be under 1k ( I am a college student). It also had to be under 30 pounds, and it had to have multiple speeds. In addition to that, the bike also had to have standardized parts for ease of maintenance. After months of searching, I had found my perfect bike the Xootr Swift folder. Some people may know Xootr for their production of their fast "adult" push scooters.
The Xootr met my criteria because the bike weighs only 24 pounds and cost $679 including shipping. Now for those of you that know about folding bikes, this is a really good deal. The next option of getting something lighter is going to either be a Brompton or a Bike Friday, both of which cost 1K at their starting models. The other major manufacture of folding bike Dahon, at this price range are often heavier. Also unlike the other brands, the bike brakes down rather easily, it only takes me 10 seconds to break down the bike.
The Actual Bike-
One thing that I like about this bike, is that it feels like you are riding a real bike. The position is not nearly as awkward as the dahons or bromptons. In fact the tires on the swift are bigger than that of the Dahon and bromptons, they are standard size BMX t tires. The bike handles pretty well, its excellent for urban riding and areas that are tight. I will mention though, that because this is a folder, don't take it off road, some grass here and there won't hurt it, but stick to the pavement. THe frame when riding feels nice and stiff. However I wouldn't push this bike like I would push my Bianchi. The bike comes in two colors, silver and blue. What I also like about this bike is that it has 8 gears, good for hills etc.
Equipment-
The Bike comes equipped with SRAM parts for the shifter, gears, and rear de-railer. The breaks are Tec-ro V-style breaks. The stock tires are Kendas, but I would not recommend them in rain, they have virtually no grip. I switched them out with Swalbe big apple tires for better handling and softer ride. The stock seat and seat post are fine, but I wanted something different, so I added a F'zik seat as well as put in a cane-creek seat suspension post. I also changed the stem so that it was a bit longer in the from. Also I swapped out the stock pedals with MKS folding pedals which are great when carrying the bike upstairs and around other people.
Conclusion/thoughts
Well, I've been on this bike for about a year now, and I am very happy with it. In the stock form the bike is very capable, I probably will keep it as it is for now. I have heard of people adding more gears and internal hubs etc, but I have no current interest in that right now. It is a good bike and I always enjoy riding it around philly. However like most bikes get a decent lock for it. I use an Abus Granite lock, which I will review soon. I will update this review when I have more time.
