Esstac Patch Pouch

Introduction

Personally I’ve always been a patch collector. I have a patch from almost every organization, unit, and historical site I’ve visited so far, plus a bunch of things I just happen to want a patch of. Most of them are now Velcro backed and having a place to store all of these becomes an issue.

Additionally there seems to be a phenomenon of airsofters, milsimers, and members of the military becoming patch, usually moral, collectors. These too are often Velcro backed and can be hard to store at times. In steps in the Esstac patch pouch. While there are other options for storing patches, most are very crude and usually won’t hold very many patches. Thus a quite literal “patch book” is the best and most obvious solution.

First Impressions

I picked this patch book off of MilSpec Monkey’s website (I have almost every single one of his moral patches) after my roommate said my patches were getting out of hand and I needed to actually store them someplace.

Getting it unfortunately was a bit of a hassle. While I really like MilSpec Monkey and all his products, he’s unfortunately become TOO popular, and his early customers suffer because he has to shut down his site time to time due to over ordering. Thus when I ordered this patch book about a year ago it took almost a month to get to me because of all the back orders that had built up in his system.

That aside I got the Esstac patch book in ACU color (big surprise there right Wink ) and when it came I was pd excited.

Appearance

Well basically it looks like a zippered book with a loop on the bottom edge for, what I assume, is attachment to something via a carabineer. On the front of the exterior there’s a small Velcro panel for attachment of a few extra patches. I found this perfect for a name tape and flag patch.

Opening it up you find a pair of dark earth colored Velcro pages along with the front and back inside covers. The Velcro is the same color no matter what version you order.

Look Grade: 8/10

Crude but looks pretty good and given the relative size of a book I found keeping it on the shelf to be fairly convenient.

Use

How useful is it? Very to say the least. Before I purchased MilSpec’s custom patch case this patch book was completely filled with patches of various designs. Plus, having two integral pockets inside the front and back cover, one is also able to store those little odds and ends (I found this good storage for non-Velcro backed patches while I waited to get enough to take to the tailor for sewing).

Additionally the center “page” of Velcro can be removed and thus the book used to store larger items that attach by Velcro. Personally I’m yet to have a need for this but I will say the books dimensions lead it to be a good pistol case as well if one has the Velcro mounting hardware.

The Page

Pouch with Page removed

The zippers used are quite large and the teeth show none of the classic signs of crappy tracks that fall apart on their own. Similarly the material used in both the Velcro pages and the external design is very high quality and not simply re-sewn uniforms; the book is made of a strong printed fabric that shouldn’t wear out over time. Similarly the hook and loop pages are extremely high in quality and don’t seem to straighten out no matter how many times you rip patches in and out of the book.

Use Grade: 10/10

Does exactly what I need, carry my patches lol.

Conclusion

Pros:
Lots of Velcro
Double Stitching Everywhere
Velcro doesn’t weaken or wear over time
Tough Material Used on the Book’s exterior

Cons:
Expensive
Hard to Find
Might not be big enough for more hardcore patch collectors…

Overall I would give this product a 9/10 for being exactly what many players need if they have multiple hook and loop patches that need storage. The only drawback is that it is quite expensive and it might in fact not be large enough to hold all the patches one has.
