MilSpec Monkey Patch Case
Introduction
More and more patch collectors’ means storage of these patches is starting to become an issue. One of the “premiere” match makers is the well known MilSpec Monkey, maker of the MCAP and the ever popular “Immediate Action” patch (which will get you in trouble with NCO’s, as I found out). Knowing that collectors were on the rise, MilSpec, in collaboration with created a huge patch case which, as advertised, should hold a huge number of patches.

First Impressions
I just ordered this because I found myself storing more patches in my Esstac Patch book’s side pockets than on the Velcro pages. And, considering the Esstac’s cost almost $40 and I would need 3 or more by now, this single patch case seemed to fit the bill for exactly what I needed.

I received the patch case two days after ordering off of MilSpec, which lately hasn’t been the norm with him due to the high volume of orders but to take a sidebar, he’s always had top notch customer service and baring those few times that he’s swamped with orders MilSpec usually ships next day with very speedy shipping.

Anyway, when I opened the case I was greeted by exactly what I was expecting; a CRAPLOAD of Velcro. This thing is REALLY big. I was worried I was going to fill it up right away but after one look at this thing I’m pretty sure space will never be an issue.
Appearance
As usually I got the book in ACU, UCP pattern. As with the Esstac patch pouch there’s a small Velcro panel in the front good for name tapes or small square patches. Right above it there is patch from MilSpec that reads:
Mil-Spec Monkey
Tactical
(Monkey Logo)
Tailor
Collaboration
Moving inside, there’s the ton of hook and loop panels. Unlike the Esstac patch book, in this the page’s color reflects the pattern you choose for the outside, which I find to be a nice improvement.

Look Grade: 9/10
Feel/Aesthetic
The Velcro material used in this case is a bit nicer than that in the Esstac. Also it’s a put together quite a bit better. The edges of the pages have materials sewn over to keep the pages from sticking together and easier to turn. Similarly the way in which the pages are sewn is much nicer and feels considerably more durable. For the most part it’s double stitching everywhere.

In total there are 10 hook and loop surfaces to place patches on. The middle 8 pages are removable. They are held on in pairs, with a double sided “arm” sticking out with a page connected to each side. This is the only problem I have with this case. The way the pages are affixed to the arms makes it awkward to open the inside pages without tearing them out. Thankfully it’s Velcro so it’s not a big deal to put them back but I figured I’d mention it.

The material used on the outside is the same quality fabric used in many pieces of kit and the handles are very well sewn on and should handle quite a bit of swinging.

The only other drawback on this pouch when compared to the Esstac is that this one does not have the two internal pockets on the insides of the front and back cover of the case. Minor issue at best but it was something that I had liked in the Esstac.
Feel Grade: 9/10
Aesthetics: 8/10

Conclusion
Pros:
Huge!
LOTS of Velcro
Great Material used
It’s Monkey Made, so you know it will last
Great Value
Cons:
Awkward internal mounting for pages
No pocket

Comparison Pic between MilSpec’s and Esstac’s Patch Pouch
I’d say this pouch gets a 9 out of 10, really only because of the awkward mounting of the internal arms that hold the Velcro pages. Other than that this is perfect for the hardcore patch collector and should be able to hold whatever it is you have and more.
