I had a series of breakages in my KWA Glock 23 GBB pistols a while ago (details in THIS thread, where the rocket valve would simply snap in half during normal operation. About 200 shots from new, each of my pistols would suddenly vent all their gas out of the barrel and then refuse to fire another shot. This was most definitely not on, and I was fast looking for a solution.
I was making an order at WGC Shop and saw some Firefly Metal Rocket Valves on sale for US$14.50 each. They were a little pricey considering what they are, but they could undoubtedly be the solution to my problem. I ordered 6 of them so that I could completely refit my entire Glock GBB collection.
They arrive in a small plastic bag that must be cut open to get at the valve, and the valve itself is small, but perfectly formed. It's not difficult to see that this is a very well made bit of kit.
Without delay, I stripped down one of the broken KWA Glock 23f pistols and fitted this rocket valve. The valve itself sits inside the blowback chamber of the gun and serves to cut off the flow of gas to the barrel once the BB has departed. It was a little fiddly to fit, but a small screwdriver and a small allen-key or push-pin do the job quite nicely. A pair of small pliers is also quite handy for removing the retaining pin that runs through the blowback chamber.
Once in, the gun fired flawlessly. There was only the tinyest slowdown in rate of fire (ROF), but it was barely noticable. If anything this was a good thing as it means short bursts don't cost you quite as many BBs out of the magazine.
I have now put in excess of 10,000 shots each through a few of my Glocks, and there has been no failure whatsoever. This is compared to the 200 shot maximum lifespan they seemed to have with the standard plastic rocket valve installed.
Okay, so they could be a few pounds cheaper, but they do the job. I can now fire my Glocks on full-auto, with the extended magazine, on green gas, in the blazing heat of summer, without a single worry about a breakage entering my mind.
They would get 10 out of 10, but for the price-tag. £8.00 is a bit steep for such a small piece of metal. If it were £5.00 or less, it would have full marks, but for now it gets a well deserved 9 out of 10.
