I bought the MP5 SD5 SMG from Z1 about 1 year ago and i really didnt know what to expect as it was my first AEG. Well it was great.
I bought this gun over TM for one reason, it was upgraded, had a hicap and was full metal and it was little more than a TM stock gun. However one of my minor complaints is that the guns isnt upgraded to 325 which woudlnt hurt them now would it, on the other hand you could argue it was CQB friendly which is understandable.
So it came to the shooting and one of things needed changing is hopup which may i add is a good design, just to left of the upper receiver behind the handguard is a small lever which adjustd the hop, not very accurate in doing so but it can be done wuickly and easy mid game if needs be. As far as accuracy goes its ok but nothing special because of the short barrel however the silencer is screaming to have a barrel run up it which is something i intend to do in the hear future.
So now to my minor niggles which i shall address
The original magazine which came with the gun wobbled alot and i mean alot but the new ones are fine
My hop rubber is now mess up bad and really could do with replacing anytime soon although i hear its lasted quite long
The fire selector wobbles alot too, im not worried that it will fall off as it fits well however theres alot of play in the up and down so it requires me to check that full auto has engaged and that ive not slipped out of semi, on the other hand going the down from auto and into semi then into safe there is alot of click , strange really.
Upgradeability.
Well there not too much that can be done to this rifle, an RDS can easily be attached and on Wolf theres a kit to attach 2 20mm rails to your silencer which look neat so ill get some and pop up my opinions of those in the forthcoming weeks
Well that concludes my review, to sum up this is an excellent first gun with few minor niggles that can be easily fixed, there are few upgrade possibilities but in my opinion the gun is fine as it is

Ok, I'm reviewing the SD6, which is the SD varient with a sliding stock.
First off, I have to say I disagree with the initial reviewers score of ten out of ten. For me, for a gun to score full marks it has to be absolutely without flaws. You'd have to be able to find absolutley nothing to complain about it, and good as it is, that's certainly not the case.To be brutally honest, I've actually artificially lowered my score to bring the total average rating of the gun to what I consider a more accurate representation. But I Digress....
So, the SD6 - This is my CQB primary. I purchased it second hand from the Beano gun vaults for £130, and a better airsoft bargain I have not found.
Obviously, being ICS it's 'full metal'. Obviously there are some plastic bits, namely the foregrip and pistol grip outer, but there's a whole bunch of metal in there and consequently is a relatively heavy bit of kit. A decent sling is definately reccomended.
This is a great all round gun, I've used it in CQB and woodland (my m4 was being dicky recently) to equal effect. The ROF is high (noticeably so compared to the ICS m4) and the accuracy is good, with the iron sights easy to zero.
The silencer does make it quieter than most AEG's, but you're never going to get it totally deadened due to the noise of the motor.
Its shortness with the folding stock makes it great for CQB as it is wonderfully pointable. It can even be fired one handed with a bit of effort.
The split gearbox makes it a snap to maintain and ugrade, and whilst I have left mine stock (no-one likes high FPS in CQB) I am reliabliy informed the stock bushings and shims will handle a 1j spring without replacement.
Niggles:
For such a high rate of fire, the fact that the hicaps have such relatively low capacity (200 to 250 rounds) seems a little weird. This is one of the factors that makes the MP5 series in general more suitable for CQB, where cover is more prevalent and you are less likely to enter a protracted firefight.
The SD fore-end means adding RIS rails takes some modding work.
Obviously because this gun has a sliding stock, you're running mini batteries. This means additonal cost and the annoying possiblity of having power run dry under fire. However, if you have two charged batteries and change them over at lunchtime on a skirmish day, the likelihood of this is diminshed.
Having the Hop adjuster mounted externally means it is easy to knock it whilst slung. However, packing the switch with electrical tape can solve this easily, and it is also an easy fix if it is knocked.
Overall, I would highly reccomend this replica, and would give it 8 out of ten. I would actually rate it higher than the SD5 as the full stock, IMHO' defeats the point of having an SMG by making it so long.

Arrived in the post, the box is nothing to shout home about, in fact brown cardboard is your lot.
Opened the box and thought WOW !!!!!!!!. This has the look. Then again I am a big fan of ICS, they seem to be able to put together a quality all metal AEG with grat performance for a reasonable price tag. Maybe that is why the box it comes in is the plainest of the plain. I don't know about you but it appears they can save on packaging and put it in the product, gets my vote.
So far looks is great packaging not so.
Taking it out the box, the weight is a bit light. I only say this because I am a collector rather than a skirmisher. So it was a tiny bit disappointing to me, but then again they don't make them for folks like me, they are made for you players.
Accuracy I found very good, not up to my TM Thompson ( which I found to be the most accurate gun I ever owned ), however over about 10m I could get a 2 inch grouping no problem ( I have to ask, is this good or am I a s**t shot. Collecting means shooting in the house and p*****g of the wife or shooting in the garden and getting arrested. She is really getting p****d finding my balls in the bedroom, the spare room, the living room etc . Don't think I am alone in this.
So, back to my thoughts on the gun. In a nutshell, it's all metal, is cheap, is light, looks the biz, shoots straight, has a loose mag, fire select is iffy (but works fine), looks the dogs with a red dot on it, all in all it is well worth your mulla.
To end it all, I would deffinitely buy one of these over the TM. Oh and it sounds nice.
Cheers

Silencer Wobble & Worse, Fire Selector, Quality of Materials?

I ordered this from Zero One, and collected it at a Ground Zero game. It was my first AEG, and im not dissapointed.
Update: After what must be about two years I'm still not very disapointed, but the list of complaints is slowly growing.
I didnt really think about the packaging much, as i'd ordered a hard case with it anyway, but the box now serves to carry all my related gear. Some people seem bothered by the lack of box art, but thats not something im bothered by. It was well packed in bubble wrap and a piece of foam anyway.
Having it in my hands, its just the right size, the metal build has a nice feel to it, and having weighed it with a battery and mag in, its more or less the same as real steel weight, always a plus.
I always use the CQB sights (just a V shaped cut rather than a hole) and they work fine, even for woodland.
I did have a couple of problems with the silencer wobbling (it even fell off once) but there is a small screw inside it that you can tighten to solve this problem.
One of my mags seems to unwind occassionaly when I insert it into the gun, but its not really something that bothers me.
I also lost one of the front handguard pins, so I taped them in. They're rather expensive to replace (I didnt have to pay in the end), so i'd recomend taping them. They're not essential, as the handguard is a good fit, but it looks kinda wrong without them.
The fire selector doesnt lock into semi nicely, like it does with full and safe. Its not a problem for me as I burst fire anyway, but if you're a wanna-be marksman (then this probably isnt the gun for you) it may bother you.
Internally its fine, good rate of fire, gets me a reasonable number of kills.
No real downsides to this gun, they're really not that much more than the TM ones, and feel much nicer.
Update:
Just had my first major problem with it. Tripped up while running across a track while skirmishing and the gun flew out of my hands. When I picked it up again the front was hanging off by the scrim net I'd tied round it. Not good. £80 for a new metal body. Still, great gun, just try not to break it.
Another update:
I damaged the stock after a small collision with the wall of a dugout. I'm kinda unipressed with the quality of materials, having had two breaks that can be attributed to not much more than weak materials and fairly small forces.
3rd update:
I've lost my silencer. This was not my fault, it simply dropped off somewhere while playing, never to be seen again. I unslung my weapon one time and it was that much shorter. This isn't the first time its happend, but its the first time its happened without my noticing at the time. Whats more annoying is the bit that attaches the silencer to the gun is missing, and seemingly impossible to replace.

Double Feeds on Semi, Mags shake a bit

I purchased a ICS MP5-SD5 with a battery and charger as my first AEG. I am very impressed with this guns preformance.
Pros
First off this gun is as Full Metal as it is going to get. The only plastic parts are the forgrip, stock and lower receiver. The gun is solid. No wobles, squeeks or wiggling. Another great feature is the standard hicap magazine which holds ~230 rounds and fires around 200 of 'em. Using a 8.4V 1800mA battery I can spray out almost 2,000 rounds at 305FPS. This is the approximate FPS since I have no chrono and it goes through one side of a Coke can and dents the other side. The hop-up is very easy to get to (just to the back of the forgrip) this makes changing your hop mid-game easy. This is not to say it is easy to bump it out of the right spot. It is very stiff when set.
Cons
The problems I have had a few buggers with this gun. One is the fact that it used to double feed every ten shots or so in semi-auto. I fixed this by replacing the hop-up bucking. The other problem I had is the stock mag shakes a bit. Not to noticible and it doesn't affect the preformance at all.
Other thoughts
I have a Classic Army Low-Profile scope mount with an NC-Star 1x45 Red-dot scope mount on it. This thing can hit a soda can at 150 feet most of the time. My one thought of upgrading the gun is getting a tight-bore barrel that goes all the way up the silencer.
I would recommend this gun to any one who wants a cheap priced high-end AEG that will last and be an able weapon on the field.
9/10 Great Job ICS

Some Play with fire selector
|
|
Picked up an ICS MP5 SD with folding stock and SEF trigger group, cosmetically it looks great finish is hard wearing and fells very comfortable.
Battery fits in foward hand gaurd and is a snug fit only problem is two lug need to be removed to change the battery and there is the potential that they can be easily lost.
Fire selector has a positive feel but there is a certian amount of play even if you tighten the tiny screw on the off side there is still some play.
Firing is a pleasure with the folding stock the gun comes into the shoulder very comfortably and the weight is reassuring, there is a satifying thud when you pull the trigger, this AEG does not have a very long barrel so don't expect a lot of range or accuracy, but as a CQB, room clearing weapon it excels, is also suitable for woodland skirmishes.
All in all a really great purchase to complement my M733.
