M10 Gas Mask
This is going to be a very brief review of the M10 Gas Mask and it’s usability in airsoft.
Two things come into play when wanting to use a gas mask for airsofting; one is if the eyepieces will survive shots without shattering or breaking and two if it looks cool enough to actually be used in any loadout. Famously the S10, ala the SAS, is the most sought after gas mask for airsofting, but there are various other alternatives and models that can complete any look and also add a bit of functionality.
I chose to get the M10 as opposed to an M40 mainly because I’m issued an M40 in my day job and while indeed, I could use it for airsoft, it wouldn’t be “mine” and thus the M10 was the best choice as it was by and large the cheapest.
(Me in my M40 and…. An odd uniform combo :D )
I got it on eBay for about $20 and “tested” it as soon as I got it. The two tests were 1 “gas” and 2 impact. By gas I mean I set off a gas grenade and sat near it until it passed. Now for me, most gas grenades stink to high hell but in the mask I couldn’t really catch a wiff.
Now the important test, the ballistic test, went just as well. Point blank with my 390 FPS (w/ .25’s) M15A4 didn’t cause much more than a minor scratch. Thus I would give this a +1 for being airsoft ready.
As far as actually using this in a match, I haven’t had a chance yet but I suspect for someone who love gas grenades or wants to use a gas mask (but not pay $110.00 plus for an S10) this will make a great mask for you.
