Beta Site #2: As mentioned below I've been working (kinda secretly) on a new website layout/design for some months now. The new 'Beta site' is now open for use, although it needs more work as of yet.

This news page will most probably not be updated, so please do refer to the new website from now on for all the latest news and information.

So what's up then? Bolding going where no-one has gone before and all that... I've completely reworked the website into a more useable format.

Over the coming week or so I will be phasing the this (old) design out completely, but rather than kill it off, the old site will be running in the background for the phasing period just incase the unthinkable happens and things go tits up.

On the official 'launch' date the old website 'as-is' will be effectively frozen. All content on the old site will be moved to the new one, so don't worry about anything going walkies in the move, we are loosing nothing and gaining a heap of new features.

The big changes are:

Forums: The subscription to my previous forum service now expires in just under 3 months. Without going into too much detail, the EZ forums, although plain and simple, weren't up the job anymore and had outlived their purpose.

User submission: To make things easier the new site allows readers to submit new links, news, feedback, and photos for the gallery.

News: The main drive (and appeal it would seem) of the website is the news pages. The new news system is sorted under sensible hierarchies. Firstly everything is sorted by categories, which is the world location i.e.: · Canada · Europe · HongKong · Japan · Taiwan · UK · USA

Then the news is sorted by type:

-ArniesAirsoft Updates
-Equipment News
-Events
-Manufacturer news
-Retailer News
-The Rumor Mill
-Skirmish Site News
-ArniesAirsoft News
-Websites updates

Not only does this make things easier to find, but people can quickly filter out news they don't want.

Design: For anyone that isn't that computer savvy, the engine is basically PHP-Nuke (a popular CMS), and the forums are php-bb. Although based on popular engines I have strived to produce something that is not only good looking, but unique, useful, functional and fast.

Additional Features:

  • CountryMap - If you click on the link 'See all Countries' on the LHS you will be taken to a map that shows where al the visitors are in the world. Should anyone be online, they will be shown, and member's names are also shown on the map. Good fun and all that, not that useful though..
  • GuestMap - stick a pin in the map and leave your name and location. Better than a guestbook!
  • PhotoGallery - more advanced, auto generated thumbnails more categories, easier to browse.. you name it - it's better.
  • Encyclopedia - currenly only contains the Airsoft Glossary, but is going to be extended (work in progress)
  • Events Calendar - catalog of all events present and past. Allows reader submission of events, and events are also listed on the front page for that month.
  • FAQ - I have heaps to already typed for input for this one, but I have some more work to do on it yet. Web Links - a lot of very helpfull UKAN members have helped me with inputting a large chunk of the complete links list (I have more to do). You can submit your links online, and it's all sorted, rated etc. Not a particularly new concept, but it will be the largest directory out there soon.
  • Translator - been on the webpage for ages, but I've brought it into the 21st Century.
  • Currency Converter - want to work out munitary values online? Use this handy gadget. Present exchange rates are also on the fornt page - automatically updated.
  • Weather - well.. it's the weather. Login and set your own profile, and you get your local weather. I've keyed in over 27,00 cities worldwide, so you should be able to find your local city/town. Day and 5Day forcast available. The front page will show you your weather once you've logged in and set things up.
  • UKAirsoftMap - Frank's wonderful map of UK skirmish sites.
  • Chatroom - I've setup a new chatroom. I haven't had time to include chat/irc instructions yet, but the interface is fairly intuitive anyway.
  • Feedback - send in any feedback you like via an online form
  • Recommend us - If you want to send a friend an email to recommend the site, you can use this handy feature
  • Private messages - part of the new forums, simple and easy to use
  • Site Statistics - loads of useless figures, maps and graphs, but lots of pretty colours.
  • Airsoft Apparel - get your own Arnie "thong" - one size (kinda) fits all.
  • AvantGo - You can sign in your PDA to the website and haul around the latest news in your pocket. This has been tested with my iPAQ, but not much else, so feedback here would be helpful.

Other news- such is the wonders of these things I have setup the front page to show the headlines from the US (Airsoft Network), and from the Squad-X website.

If there's any problems, please let me know in the site errors section of the new forums.

Beta Site: I've been working (kinda secretly) on a new website layout/design for some months now. The new 'Beta site' is now open for use, although it needs more work as of yet.

At the moment a lot of the articles need resizing to work with the new layout, and a lot of relinking needs to be done. The Encyclopedia and the FAQ are unfinished, but provide an insight into what they will look like eventually. I won't bore you with endless lists of features as it should be obvious what's new. The new design features a new integrated forum, simply create one login, and you have a profile on the website, that remembers who you are and your own preferences.

There is lots more for me to do, but I do feel that the new look is ready for public viewing, and use. The Beta Site is still that.. 'beta', so please don't expect everything to work as is. I have spent a long time reworking the site, a lot of the code is written by hand, and all the work is my own. Any code that is used (however little) should be credited where needed.

I can't think of much more to say at the moment. This really has been a huge slog to get the new layout to where it is now, and only a someone that has experience with such complex websites can appreciate. Enough banter from me, please do get stuck in and try the new website out - hope you like it!

If there's any problems, please let me know in the site errors section of the new forums.

Updates? Sorry for not providing any updates recently, a few of you know that I'm hard at work behind the scenes working on something for the website, but I'm afraid most of you won't see the changes until it's done later this week. Sorry it sounds a bit cryptic, but I'm a bit pushed for time at the moment.

SOS @ UKAN: Please take a moment to check out the SOS over on the UKAN pages. Sadly there have been some recent gun related events that may trigger a 'knee jerk' anti-gun/replica reaction, and a rather sensible petition has been put forward by CJ:

"...Welcome to the UK Airsoft Network's petition to Her Majesty's Government over the worrying knee-jerk proposals to ban replica weapons. It is unclear at this stage whether their intentions will include the banning of airsoft-type guns, so UKAN is taking pre-emptive action in an attempt to stave off such an occurance. If you support the letter, please fill in your details at the bottom of the form, you details will eventually be printed off and posted, along with the letter, to the persons mentioned below. Thank you..."

Happy New Year! Well I know it's not New Year quite yet, but I won't be posting tomorrow as I'll be celebrating the New Year, and therefore somewhat indisposed. I'd therefore just like to wish everyone a Happy New Year!

Email down: It looks like one of the UKAN routers partook in far too much merriment (and beer) over Christmas, and is suffering from a major hangover. There will be engineers out on the 02/01/03 to fix the problem, but until then all email to arniesairsoft.co.uk will bounce. If you need to contact me you can get me at arnie@airsoft.me.uk.

AirsoftTactical M2 .50cal: J at AirsoftTactical dropped us a line about a new project that they are working on - an M2 .50cal Heavy Support Weapon. Here's the latest form them:

"...Just wanted your readers to be the first to know that we a currently working towards a finished prototype of the Airsoft M2 Heavy Support Weapon. This is a replica of the Military .50 cal. heavy machine gun. For those unfamiliar, several forces around the globe have been using the gun for decades as a large mobile chalk, or battalion support weapon. For years several variants of the .50 cal. have been produced, and upgraded. We are focused on the latest version (faintly illustrated here in the early blueprints).

A high-quality CNC production company will actually be manufacturing the unit. Our business will be the official retailer and distributor of the new product.

We completed the prototype in early December, and are now finishing the internal firing and feeding mechanism... Those wondering about the weight, just simply put: It is called a "Heavy" Support Weapon for a reason. The original real steel is over 85lbs., and thus-far the unit is just under 50lbs. (This measure does NOT include the remote air tank, ammo can, ammo can carrier, or tripod mount). It is meant for a stationary gunner pod or vehicle mount. Once completed, we will test the prototype housing with the new internals and other accessories in development.

O.K., for those that caught it, YES it will be air-fed. Our first efforts with an AEG box were just too problematic, and costly. We wanted a higher rate of fire, and faster feeding; something a box mag couldn't keep up with... Back to the drawing board, the "classic internals" were just the cure.

At 50lbs., and almost 3 meters in length, this is not for everyone. However, those who are interested, will enjoy the accuracy, rate of fire, and the overall detail. Most of the unit is made from billet, and stock aluminum. Although the manufacturer is adhering to a realistic look, it has much cleaner edges and machining than that of the real steel. Some improvements over the real steel have been made including a new grip cover, trigger assembly, exterior hardware and of course, ammo cost.

Negotiations are still pending for cost, so it's pointless to guess at this stage. We are shooting to finish a limited production run by May of 2003. Some photos will be leaked later as the final finishes are made to the pieces, prior to production. Because of the production wait, we are now working on the internal carriers for our new project due in mid-late 2003, the Airsoft Mk19 40MM Full-Auto Grenade Launcher.....

For those having any questions you can e-mail me at sales@airsofttactical.com, stop by, or call the store at 770.992.7137 ..."

Christmas break: Well I hope everyone's had a tremendous Christmas and is looking forward to the coming new year as much as me. ^_^ I'd like to thank everyone that helps to make this website what it is, with news and reviews that are sent in, and especially to CJ for the hosting that he provides for us. Without the support of the readership, put quite simply - this website wouldn't be what it is today!

CO2 powerlet adapter update: I've updated the CO2 powerlet adapter review with some reader's project photos (project by Christopher Boddy):

"...The CO2 adapter is proving very popular for use in Airsoft projects of varying types, so I thought I'd start by publishing reader's project photos and information here. First up is a Glock conversion by Christopher Boddy. You can see (in the inset picture) that it originally started out as an original CO2 adapter, but has since been modified somewhat. ^_^ ..."

SV Xcelerator "Fluted": WesternArms have announced a new product that they plan to launch on the 15th January 2003 and are now taking pre-orders (thanks go out to David Boyt for sending in the news).

The SV Xcelerator "Fluted" comes in two color sets, one is all black, and the other is with a silver frame and a rather fetching red grip (the silver model is shown here).

The new model is based on the tried and tested SVI hi-cap frame, comes with hop-up and an R-type valve setup. the official specs are listed as:

"...The Xcelerator/ silver model has a grip frame in newly red color. This adds up to their company tradition, which make the pistol more evolve into sporty. We also reproduce the barrel assembly in gold color according to the inspiration of the Scheumann Barrels, which distributes AET hard coated bronze barrel to Strayer-Voigt Inc. The slide, made in heavy weight material moves vigorously..."

New G36c review up: Bleet dropped me a line to let me know that they had a new review of the G36c up here: (http://www.algonet.se/~otsu/pics/airsoft/g36c/).

G36 @ CombatClub: William over at CombatClub has dropped me a line about an offer that they now have on the new TM G36c. CombatClub have 10 of the new model available at an offer price of 189.99USD each.

War IV offers: James Lo of War IV Company has sent in an update about their latest offer, this month their company has a special price for the Tokyo Marui M4A1 with one 1700mAh 9.6v batt set for 205USD.

War IV Company are located at Shop 7, G/F., Yan On Building, No. 1 Kwong Wa Street, Mong Kok, Hong Kong.

SAS update: It's been a bit since we've heard from Special Airsoft Supplies (SAS), and I've just received an update from him via email. Here's the latest from Mark (glad to hear you're back and feeling better mate!):

"...Would like to let you know what has been happening with me over the past few months and what we are about to do for the Airsoft community as well.

As you have probably heard I have been out of contact for the last few months due to me being diagnosed with cancer in September, and being in and out of hospital for the three following months. This all was too much for me as you could probably imagine and things got behind because of it. Anyway I was given the final all clear by the doctors last Wednesday and am finally getting my strength back. All the people that have things outstanding have now been cleared and I am now back into the business full time. As such I have been doing a little homework and have managed to wangle a few deals.

For starters we can now offer Guarder tactical equipment for nearly half the usual price, here are some prices:

Modular Tactical Vest £55
SOG CQB Tactical Vest £75
Tactical Thigh Holster £20
Tactical 3 Point Sling £12
M2000 3 Gun Case £30
Polycarbonate 2001 Glasses £20

We are also going to be doing something with the prices of the AEG's as well just into the New Year.
I will give you an idea in that all guns will be supplied WITH A BATTERY & CHARGER, here are some of the prices.

M4A1 £220
G36c £225
AK47 £215
P90 / P90tr £215
Hicap mags will be reduced to £22 and standard mags will be £15.

On the pistol front we are dropping prices to the following sort of prices:

KSC Glock 26 £80
W/A Prokiller MkII SV5 £130...."

Christmas break: Well seasons greetings to everyone - I don't think I'll have the time to plug in the laptop between now and Christmas Day here (but you never know), so if I don't post again, have a great Christmas everyone!

TM deceleration adapter: TM have finally announced their "deceleration adapter" (thanks go out to Nuno Miguel Cabeçadas for letting me know). Due for release on 20/12 it's a cunning little innovation - this muzzle adapter has the ability to decrease a BBs power by up to 50%. Basically all it does is provide back pressure on the BB.

We were having discussions about this little widget when I came across it a few months back. It's nice to see that we were thinking along the right lines - anything that touches the BB would introduce inaccuracies, and most probably cause the hopup effect to fail. Here's the latest (translated) from TM themselves:

"...The fact that it is devised then is, utilized the air pressure of this barrel point removal and re-installation system the " deceleration adapter ". This device, without dropping on-target hit precision without giving irregular revolution to the BB bullet which by the fact that you install in the air gun which has high bullet fast discharge function, is discharged, it is possible to make only bullet speed fall..."

As you can see from the text above, and the images below, TM say it doesn't affect the accuracy, consistency or the hop-up effect. RRP is 1,980 Yen, and it comes with 4 different 'collars' that allow different reductions in power. TM are quick to point out that the effect of the adapter is different on differing AEG models. The good news is that everyone can quickly and easily reduce the power of any AEG to make it safer for close Airsoft engagements (CQB/FIBUA).

Sopley news: I've just received an email from the lads at Sopley (CQB site on the UK South Coast) with their game dates for the coming year:

"As a Xmas present from us all, we are giving you all the next dates till July 2003, Probably the best present you are all going to get this Year!

Sunday 12th January 2003 ( Space limited, please call to confirm )
Special Event Sunday 19th January 2003 ( Lo Cap - Pedro Event )
Sunday 2nd February 2003 ( Space limited, please call to confirm)
Sunday 23rd February 2003 ( Space limited, please call to confirm )
Sunday 16th March 2003 ( Space limited, please call to confirm )
Sunday 6th April 2003 ( Space limited, please call to confirm )
Sunday 4th May 2003 ( Space limited, please call to confirm )
Sunday 8th June 2003 ( Space limited, please call to confirm )
Sunday 22nd June 2003 ( Space limited, please call to confirm )
Sunday 20th July 2003 ( Space limited, please call to confirm )..."

Two new UK skirmish sites: I have received word of two new skirmish sites in the UK that have now opened. The first is in an email that I've received from ZeroOne Airsoft about a new skirmish site in the UK:

"...New Skirmish site open in Dorset. For details, visit www.groundzeroairsoft.co.uk. First walk-on day is free, see event dates for details..."

The second site's details came to me in an email from Gavin Fellows:

"...Just though I should let you know that a new site will be opening in March 2003. We will be running closed sessions to check the land and stuff from early January and get some power to the main site and such.

What we think is the best thing is that we will not be limited to one site and as the year goes on we will be added other locations all within an easy drive of our base in Gloucester.

We have a website http://www.airsoftcombat.co.uk the site will be updated with maps and photo's of the testing sessions as we run them. At the moment though it is only a holding page..."

TNT woes #3: I've had more emails the TNT issue. Oh dear... the news isn't good. Den are currently preparing to resend their parcels that are being held by customs.

In another email - I've received word from another source that the parcels that have been held have been incinerated. As Den are sending out new shipments it would certainly seem that hope for the return of the held shipments is fading somewhat. Here's the latest from Daniel Munoz (aka Sniper) Vicepresident of FEGE (The Spanish Airsoft Players Association):

"...Just got word from some spanish airsofters, that all airsoft stuff in the holland customs has been DESTROYED by incineration...and apparently notifications has been received from TNT warning about this. We must suppose that TNT will compensate all buyers somehow. We do not know it at the moment, but we are in contact with TNT's consumer service in Spain to see what they say us..."

First G36C accessories: Many thanks go out to VIPER, from www.airsoftgun.ru for sending in this news. The first accessories (small joke there ^_^) for the TM G36 are on the way out. New from Laylax (aka FirstFactory company) are replacement G36 RIS rails, and a silencer adapter.

The side rail isn't that thrilling really, but it is longer than the TM version, allowing the fitting of more accessories to the front grip. Combined with the fact that TM don't ship the TM with the side panels, this item will probably be on most G36 owner's list, right after spare mags and a battery. :) RRP is 2200Yen, and it's out now.

The muzzle adapter from Laylax really again isn't that amazing, but is sure to be popular. The adapter allows the fitting of a silencer, and keeps the 'look' as the adapter is the same width as the silencer. RRP is 1800Yen and it's out now too:

"...By the fact that you adhere to the design to which the outer barrel of thinness hides, when installing it is finished in the forum where the substance and one bodily sensation are born. If it jointly uses with the slim suppressor of the mode 2 series of the new brand, it is possible also to change to also bull barrel type..."

Thursday, December 19, 2002 7:10 PM

Christmas break: Well that's it - I've finished work for the Christmas break! What does this mean? Well I'll be doing updates every 48 hours or so to the website over the holidays. If you email news in to me, please don't send in huge attachments as I'll be on the road with a laptop (small images for news-post use are okay though).

AoS G36 mini review: Marre (of AoS) has just dropped me a line to let me know that they've put online a mini review of the TM G36c (Thanks Marre).

"...As soon as the gun arrived I tore the package up to inspect its content. The first reaction was "WOW". I was worried that the G36C would have the same plastic feeling found on the Sig 55X series. None of those those mistakes where found here. The handguard is rock solid, the stock felt very tough, with the hinges made of metal. No squeaky sounds from the gun at all..."

Wolf updates: Wolf have the new G36 and the MK23 in stock, and can guarantee delivery before Christmas by all accounts. Here's the latest from Max:

"...The G36c has arrived!!!! They look absolutely awesome bits of Kit, we also have the 470rd hi cap mags to go with them. Also we have some of the new Mk23 Proto in as well. We have 30 G36c altogether and can guarantee delivery before christmas, there price with the current wolf 10% discount is £299.69 inclusive of VAT..."

New wallpaper: Dr StrangeLove has sent in some new wallpaper for the wallpaper section. You can find the new wallpaper here.

AirsoftRecon: Trev (aka Spud) has sent in news of a new website by the name of AirsoftRecon. It's well worth a look into. Here's the brief from Trev:

"..unlike most of the forums around it's free from all the bitching and nagging (so far) and the members decide a lot of the things as George (the Admin) takes in a lot of advice from the guys that post..."

TechBrigade updates: Paul (aka TankBuster) has emailed in an update about TechBrigade's website. Thanks Paul - here's the latest from them:

"...Tech Brigade have been skirmishing since 1993 and have today updated their website with a new, fresh, military themed look. All the usual stuff, Airsoft info, forums and skirmish dates are there as well as an extensive picture gallery. The roster and the links page are not quite done yet, but the meat of it is there..."

KJWorks Elite/MK1 sniper: There's a couple of new items in the works, one is the KJ MK1 sniper (basically a Ruger MK1 with a hollow stock, foregrip and a very long barrel). Price for the KJ Elite IA is 3800 Taiwanese Dollars, which is roughly 50UKP, the KJ Works MK1 sniper comes in at a slightly more expensive 3800 Taiwanese Dollars (roughly 70UKP). Source: bbgun.killer.com.tw , thanks go out to Craig (aka Urbandork) for sending in the news.

TNT woes#2: I've had quite a few emails from people querying the TNT issue. All I can say is that I know that there are problems at the moment, and that a lot of parcels have been delayed.

For more in depth details I highly recommend reading this thread at the UKAN. Just for the record TNT have always provided me with the best UK courier service - so I wouldn't write them off totally. As ever - I recommend reading the messages there and making your own informed decision. ^_^

Monday, December 16, 2002 9:39 PM

New Airsoft Canada forums: Meta over in Canada was kind enough to drop me a line to say that AirsoftCanada now have new forums running at their website.

"...Thanks to Hojo, we have a nice new dboard to use. Nice work on the board Miles. So feel free to go register, or re register and join the continuously growing community of airsofters in Canada..."

ANGS replica AN/PEQ-2A review: I've just put online the second AN/PEQ review - this time it's of the ANGS version (the ICS version is also reviewed here) and written by Specwarguy Will (cheers Will!). So which is the best? Well I don't think there's a hard and fast answer, but you can make an informed decision by reading this new review.Yes you are reading it right - he does own a real version of this replica! Here's a small snippet:

"...In one way or another, there have been multiple discussions online about how to outfit a Marui M4A1 and RIS with proper battery storage/power to drive the upgraded internals we all yearn to skirmish with. With methods such as using an aftermarket RIS, a fixed stock, redi-mag, M203 assembly and even an M203 shell to outfit large capacity 9.6V’s and higher, the Insight Technologies AN/PEQ 2 replica by ANGS will surely be a great accessory to have in order fill this demand. My review is based on having the real unit which is currently on loan to a friend. It is also a review based on opinions by me with care taken for giving as much accuracy as possible..."

AirsoftShop updates: Eddie over at AirsoftShop has updated his stock lists, with all the latest gear, including the TM G36c. Updates include:

Tokyo Marui G36C 470 rounds hi-cap magazine
EG560 Hi-Torque Motor
ANGS Metal Feed Cover for TOP M249 Series
M18 Smoke Grenade Type BB Container
Tokyo Marui MP5A5 HG
Tokyo Marui MP5A4 HG
M11 CQB 2 (Limited Edition)
G&P Steel Front PARA Barrel Full Set For TOP

TNT woes: If you are ordering any kit from HongKong at the moment, don't use TNT for the time being. That is the advice coming in from the UK Airsoft crew at the moment. So what's up you ask? Well now here's the kicker, European TNT shipments come via Amsterdam - Airsoft is technically illegal there(well replicas are, so Airsoft is) so Dutch customs have seized all incoming parcels. Here's the latest from Matt (aka Slayer):

"...TNT have always shipped via Amsterdam. (gets trucked to Belgium) Dutch customs recently found Airsoft kit in three consecutive shipments from HK during some spot checks. Since this is more than 'random' they have for the last 3 weeks checked all freight on all carriers from HK and have seized all 'illegal' goods. Airsoft is not illegal in the Netherlands - it's replicas that are (so anything that looks real).

State of affairs for getting things released: TNT have along with Dutch authorities figured out what paper work is needed for replicas to be transited through Amsterdam. TNT in the Netherlands have/are sending out the details to the shops in HK. They need to get forms from their local Dutch embassy which allows transit of replicas thru Amsterdam. Once this paper work is done and returned to TNT Netherlands and then presented to the Dutch courts the packages will be released.

As a result of this TNT are now (trying to) re-routing all HK freight direct to London. Then distribute throughout Europe..."

FPS-Zine website updates: Sergio Costa (Designer/Reviewer for FPS Magazine) has let me know about a series of updates to their website (thanks Sergio). These new innovations include:

"...- Store - here you can get some FPS merchandise. For now, all we have are shirts and caps, but stay tuned.

- Index of Articles - are you looking for that article you read some time ago? Or maybe you want to know in which issue was your team featured on. Check out this section. All the articles are conveniently listed alphabetically by type.

- Our Sponsors - check out the companies that help support your favourite magazine. Pay them a visit and learn more about them...."

MadAboutAirsoft updates: MadAboutAirsoft have emailed in their latest updates. Sadly because of the email issues recently this is the first chance I've had to put them up for everyone to read (sorry for the delay folks).

"...Since launching our new website, we had a few complaints about ASP and timeout errors, this was caused by our old server being overloaded. We have now invested in a nice shiny new server and everything is working like a dream.

Other news, with the launch of the new Western Arms Beretta M92FS Elite 1a around the corner we are now taking reserve orders on this pistol, which will retail for £125.00. At the same time we have now reduced the cost of several of the other Western Arms pistols:

Western Arms SVI Tactical Carry - £130.00
Western Arms Beretta M92FS Perfect Centurion - £130.00 (in short supply)
Western Arms Para Ordnance P14-45 Black - £125.00
Western Arms SV Infinity 1911 5" - £120.00
Western Arms SV Infinity 1911 6" - £125.00 ..."

ICS AN/PEQ-2 review #2 Hey I did say that these little things were going to prove popular didn't I? ^_^ I'm happy to bring you our third review of these gems. This review is written by our Airsoft guru, Allen (aka DumboRAT). So what did Allen think of the ICS version?

"...The ICS unit rides atop a set of nice hard metal attachment points; two screws with knurled finger-adjustable heads as well as single-slot screw cut-out easily allows you to latch this piece onto any RIS/RAS Picatinny or Weaver rail. IMHO, it is not likely that you'd be able to snap off this unit unless you really abused it.... The fit was perfect on the RIS rail of my TM SR-16, BTW. [ Note here is that my friend, "The_Edge," who is a well-known airsoft nutcase and absolute gear/accessory junkie, had a distinctly different impression of the solidity/rigidity/durability of the mounting apparatus than I did -- being that I typically am more accommodating in my reviews and that The_Edge typically takes a very hard line at assessments, you, the reader, can try to reach your own judgement of the severity of this potential problem by simply reading both of our reviews..."

Email: The UKAN mail server has now been upgraded and is back in full swing, thanks to our loveable guru CJ. The good news is that I have all the email that's been sent to me over the past week, the bad news is that there's 6 megs of it to plough through. I'm going to do my best to get everything replied to but it might take me a while. ^_^

Dear Santa... Spotted on LA Gunshop's homepage is news of my Christmas prezzie to be.. sod the TM G36c I'll have this please Santa! ^_^ Ed (aka Darryl Zero) has sent in this news relating to the air cocking Maruzen M870 that we were talking about on the news page here about 6 months back.

Featuring a 40 round mag and with an RRP of 9800Yen (available for around 6860Yen) this should be a real hoot of an Airsoft rifle. Built by the same guys as the APS2 series, it should prove to be very popular (and also as reliable and accurate as the APS2). If you're interested it's out on the 25th December (Yup Christmas day!).

On their news page you'll also find imagery of "...A few other things are there, including some more pics of the KSC M945, Marui G26 Advance, and Marushin 8mm maxi pistols, like the Automag, Bren Ten, Detonics .45, and Taurus PT92...". A big thanks go out to Ed for the news!

AirsoftClub G36C in bits! Algin (of AirsoftClub) gave me a ring at the weekend to let me know about the G36C - Algin and Eagle had just finished gutting the first one that they got in, to see what it looked like inside. You gotta love these guys, I'm just the same give me anything interesting and I'll have it in pieces in seconds to see what's inside. Of course that's the easy part - it's the putting back together that takes ages. I remember the first G3 gearbox I took to pieces, took me 3 hours, 1 curry and 3 beers to rebuild it. But anyway I appear to be rather characteristically waffling here - I shall return you back to the news post...

Curiously enough Algin and Eagle took around the same time to look over this new piece. News is that the G36 is held together with a mere two screws, and thankfully doesn't feature any weird custom internal parts. There's also plenty of scope for upgrades as by all accounts there's plenty of 'air leakage' in the present design. For more info (and some cool photos) checkout AirsoftClub's new pages.

Email: The UKAN mail server is due for some maintenance, so email to me at arniesairsoft.co.uk may well bounce in the meantime. My backup email address is arnie@airsoft.me.uk and is currently working so please do contact me via that address if you need me over the next 48hours, everything should be back to normal shortly.
Cosmic Girl dedication: Space Cowboy has sent in this dedication to a friend of his, and I am rather proud to host these new wallpaper images for him. He asked me to add the following quote:

"I would like to dedicate these following pictures to my best friend: Cosmic Girl. I also want to thank Mr Arnie for his kindness: you're just too cool, mate!"

Please click on the link or the image to the right to go to the new area of the wallpaper section.

Flecktarn updates: Jo of Flecktarn.co.uk has sent in their latest updates - now there's a whole heap of updates, so many that it's not really feasable to place them here, so to read the latest updates from Jo, please Read More...

ICS AN/PEQ-2 review: I've just uploaded a review of the ICS AN/PEQ-2 that we've been talking about on the news pages for some time now. The review was kindly written by The Edge. Here's a brief taster:

"...This has been something that I (and I'm sure many other people) have been searching for, for quite sometime. Ever since the release of the Tokyo Marui M4RIS w/ mock AN/PAQ-4C, I've always wondered "Why hasn't there been a mock AN/PEQ-2?”

It took almost 2 years, but ICS (and very soon, ANGUS) have finally produced a viable alternative to the battery bag/Redi-mag solution that many M4 RIS owners face. I myself have had to mill out the insides of my Mosquito Molds RIS to fit a 9.6v 1100mAh battery..."

New IntruderShop 40mm barrel: Richard Chou at IntruderShop (aka Guarder) has kindly let me know about a new piece of kit that they are producing. Looking to blow the GB-Tech/ZEKE M203 products out of the water is the gorgeous new barrel set from them.

As it's from the lads at IntruderShop I can't wait to see it. The new product has rifling groves all the way down the barrel. Whilst you're at their website, be sure to checkout their new Digicon target cartridges too. Here's the latest from Richard:

"...Now we're developing some new items, one of them is the Metal Barrel for M79/M203 40mm Grenade Launcher. Some people may ask: "why do you want to make the metal barrel for M79/M203? There are already several products in the market, aren't there?" But we'll say: "we want to let everybody know how a ultimate metal barrel should looks like..." =)

There are some breakthrough in our CNC skills. Besides the looking, color and manufacturing precision, now the realistic rifling will be seen on our metal barrels. The attached image shows two sample pictures of the semi-finished metal barrels. There will be certainly three types of metal barrels: M79, M203 Std and M203 SOCOM..."

Updates/Articles: Oh.. one word on updates. I am writing several articles/reviews for various people at the moment. I haven't forgotten about them, rather I only have so much free time each day, and a lot of the work I am doing is behind the scenes at the moment. Apologies to anyone waiting for anything specific, but the updates will be here as soon as is humanly possible.

First Factory go international: We've all been watching and finally First Factory have now gone international. They accept only wire transfer at the moment, but this is sure to be of great interest to everyone, particularly when they are selling TM G36Cs for 19,024Yen (which is just under 100UKP + shipping/tax). The G36 will be out on 12th December.

People looking for something just that little bit 'different' might well be interested in the Manga inspired MP5 'swordfish' that they now have.

Based on the TM MP5 RAS it's pricier than the G36 at 39,800 Yen, but it sure is different. ^_^ The Surefire torch, and flip-up front/rear sights are sold separately.

Email replies: Sorry if anyone has emailed me recently and received no reply I've literally just finished overhauling the PC that I use at home to produce this website (the old one was getting a bit past it). I will get round to replying to all my email right after I get some sleep. ^_^

BigOut launcher review: I've just uploaded a great review of the Big Out launcher. This rather retro design allows a standard 40mm Airsoft gas grenade to be laucnhed from an AEG (typically an M4/16). The review has been kindly written by Philip 'Bursar' Mansfield. Here's a snippet:

"... Firstly, the grenade holder unscrews into 2 parts. The top part slides down over the moscart shell so that the thread extends past the bottom of the shell. Now, this is where the thumb damaging comes into play. I'm not sure if the tolerances on my launcher or shell were slightly out, but it took me about 20 mins of pushing and cursing before I got the top of the holder pushed down over the shell. Once on, there is absolutely no way your shell is going to fall out accidently..."

AirsoftClub stock updates: Algin (of AirsoftClub) has contacted to update me on their latest developments.

First up is their own custom 'hybrid' L85A1. Built around an Academy version, with a new (metal?) barrel and foregrip, it runs from a custom TM AK gearbox, and takes TM M16 mags. 451.50USD for a custom SA80 variant, isn't bad at all. These untis take roughly a week to build once ordered.

Next is the latest update concerning their long anticipated M14s. In the new update you can see details of the gearbox design ( a modified AK47 gearbox), the sighting system, and the loading mechanism. The production version comes with a TM AK47 barrel. It also looks like the price is going up after Christmas - so if you want one, it's probably best to order it now. This price increase is because they will need to order new parts for the next batch, having nearly filled their target of 100 orders.

The last up is a custom M249 CQB, theres not a huge amount of detail about it, simply because they don't anticipate a huge demand, but if you are after an M249, fully upgraded and refitted with a Marui AK47 gearbox, shortened barrel, RAS grip, and para style stock, then look no further (and drop them an email). Price is sure to be high, but as is nearly always true with custom work, you get what you pay for. ^_^

Airsoft Armoury opens: There's a new dedicated Airsoft shop now open in the UK. Please note that this shop is not to be confused with a retailer of a similar name (Airsoft Armouries) that closed a few months ago.

Airsoft Armoury is located at 3 Chalfont House, Chalfont Station Road, Little Chalfont, Amersham, Bucks. HP7 9PS and can be contacted on 01494 766373. As usual click on any picture for a larger version.

Here's the introduction from their website:

"...Our aim at The Airsoft Armoury Ltd is simple - we want to have the best airsoft and equipment showroom in the UK. We stock all the latest models of airsoft weapons and their accessories from all the major manufacturers at keenest prices along with quality ammunition, holsters and upgrades. The Airsoft Armoury Ltd was formed by two enthusiasts of the sport, who, like so many others of you out there have had to pay over inflated prices for the items that we want for the last several years. We aim to carry all items listed in our adverts and on this website in stock, and we would never expect anybody to purchase a display model..."

BBGunLand update: The author of BBGunLand (VegaPlus) got in contact with me today regarding his website, and explained why I couldn't find his website to me. VegaPlus dropped the website name as a retailer had the same name (the people I cited yesterday) hence the confusion. The really good news is that you can find the reviews written by VegaPlus here. A big thanks go out to VegaPlus for letting me know. ^_^

German mortar replica: On the subject of big things that go bang... Spetsnaz33 (in our forums) came across this cunning device. It's a replica of a German WW2 50mm troop mortar that takes Airsoft gas grenades built by Rush Mania.

Costing 29,800 Yen the unit allows you to drop the grenade in from the top to fire it (it goes off when it hits the bottom), and you can swing out the lower chamber to unload the grenade once it has been fired.

They do say that it's not exactly the same as the model it's based on, but the resemblance is close enough. According to the website their prototype has been out with them for some historical reenactments, and the teams present were all very impressed. You can find a video of it in operation here, and a higher quality version here. It's a great video and rather fun to watch - yup time to buy more Moscart shower grenades!

On the subject of gas grenades isn't it about time someone made a LAW dummy frame/chassis that could take the shower grenades?

On their news page is some information about the Marushin M500 gas shotgun. It seems that they now have the new version in stock. It's hard to gather anything from the translation, so it might just be a new production run rather than a revised model. Oh.. if you are looking for any more reasons to love this website, please do checkout this picture - I'm glad to see someone has finally done it!

BBGunLand: If you've been a reader of this website for some time you might remember me rabbiting on about BBGunLand. Well for whatever reason their website address just kept on changing every 6 months or so. They now seem to have popped up at http://www.bbgun.com.tw/. There's not much there at the moment, but it does mean that there's at least a permanent URL to keep any eye on. ;)

GunDoctor's cunning idea: GunDoctor is a Japanese website, and this specific custom project caught my eye. It's well know that I'm a big fan of "boomsticks", so this little pocket rocket really did intrigue me. (click the image for a larger version).

This is the GreandePistol-2 (GP2). The GP2's grip, trigger and select switch are quite obviously either from, or designed on the MP5, and it'll take Airsoft gas grenades. The item is listed as a 'kit' so some assembly must be required.

This is their second grenade pistol, and as they talk of 'shipments' there must be more than one. :) Price is 18,500Yen inc postage, and is compatible with all Moscart units. They are by all accounts quite popular (a local store reserved their entire shipment last time) they can be contacted on (Japan) 025-281-8018 . I haven't seen anyone stocking this yet, but I'm sure they might become available if enough people email their local retailer about them.

M700 review: I've just uploaded a review written by Robbin Midheich (aka Juoj8) covering the SunProject M700 rifle. Just to put this in perspective, the guy has one arm in a cast at the moment, but still found the time to write a review with one hand and send it in. Now that's a die hard Airsofter!

"...There's not much info about the Sun Project M700, which I think is rather sad, since it's such an interesting rifle. If you ask Airsofters around, there isn't many who knows about it's existence, and even fewer who know how it performs like! Many believe that it only exists as a collectors piece, and is no longer been made, which is not true. Others have said that this rifle shoots very lousy, but this is not true either. ..."

ICS S.I.R.: Calvin over at ICS has sent in some pictures of their latest items. This time they bring us the S.I.R. system. Now given that we know ICS are working on their own M4/16 AEG range, the chances of an out-the-box SIR-M4 are looking rather good. Here's the latest from ICS - click on any picture for a larger image:

"The S.I.R System is designed to fit flat top receivers, this modular receiver sleeving system is a hand guard universal mounting system that leaves the barrel totally free-floating while providing a rigid ultra-light platform on which to mount virtually any mission specific accessory like lasers, night vision, optical sight, M203, etc. like all our products, the SIR system is compatible to Marui's too."

Click here to visit UN CompanyUN Company updates: UN Company have updated their stock lists with a large selection of Christmas offers. Here's some of the highlights:

Latest from Wolf Armouries: Wolf Armouries have been kind enough to drop some news my way from them. As you can see they will have the G36 in stock just before Christmas

"Just a quick note to say we will be getting the new G36C's on the 19th or 20th of December, Wolf are also having a 10% off Tokyo Marui AEG's till the end of January 2003."

Combat Club specials: Dany of CombatClub has emailed in news of some rather rare items that they have in for sale.

First up is this gorgeous looking MP40, they only have one available, so you'd better be quick if you are interested. The model is a Marushin MP40 (Model Cap Gun - i.e. it makes a noise only, and doesn't eject/use BBs). This model is now no longer made but is 100% brand new with metal parts and come with 5 shells. Price is set to 340USD.

Next up is a very rare MG34. Sadly they don't know who made it, but it is a gas operated replica, and is fully working. The item is second hand (from Japan), and comes with full accessories, a full metal body and host of metal parts/accessories. It's not cheap, but then again it is a collector's item: 3500USD.

The Dawn of the 'Rising Sun': Mike Montesa's (aka Stinger) wonderful writing and reporting talents are now back in the form of a new website (http://www.airsoftplayers.com/recon/). Go and have a look at the latest report from Mike, it's clean honest, and a very good read!

"...I`ll be bringing you all the latest news and developments in the Japanese airsoft industry, in my Rising Sun Recon report, every month. This site will also feature articles about airsoft in Japan; how the game is played here, players, shops, and just about anything else I can think of. I`ll also be bringing you reports from some of the major airsoft shows such as Black Hole, V-MAT, GAMS, the Tokyo Hobby Show, and many more."
